By the lake.

Back in February of this year, I was asked by the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland, to quote them a price for me to produce and then provide them with 6 images to use – and so after some negotiating of the fee, we were given the green light to proceed.

So in August, Dianne and I flew over to see them – to talk more about what they actually needed, as well as see their place for ourselves first hand.

A fairly tale castle…

.. with a huge Scottish flag in front, is how I would best describe it Smile.

Anyway, one of the last shots we looked at when we were there, was this view from the lake at the back…
The lake at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. which we felt would work well, to show a bride how beautiful their location was, i.e. it would be the ideal setting for her big day.

However, I went on to add in our report…

“Totally weather dependent – so I won’t promise anything here.”

.. as is Scotland after all wink.

Anyway, after lots more talk about what all they needed, last week we headed over to shoot for real – and I had obviously been keeping a close eye on the weather forecast – so instead of starting on the Monday as planned, due to the weather forecast saying Sunday would be good, we pushed ahead and arrived mid-day Sunday, to set-up for this shot…

.. which as you can see wasn’t looking to good at this stage.

Still, it wasn’t long before the sun came out, so having asked at the last minute for a flower girl and a bride to be there, Dianne & I tried to work-out their positions…

.. but there was one slight problem, we didn’t have a bride or a flower girl cry.

Thankfully however, Dianne had brought a wedding dress over with her – and so before I knew it she was wearing it…

.. and was more than happy to stand-in, as some big black clouds started to appear.

But then she disappeared after looking at this image on screen…

.. and re-appeared a few minutes with a new bride…

.. while I watched the sun go behind a big tree, which as you can see meant they were now in the shadows cry.

So lights up…

.. and while Dianne sorted out the dress…

.. Claudio played around with the lighting, to see if he could get the balance right to make it look natural.

Anyway, one of the huge advantages of using a digital system, is you can obviously see the results right away on screen – and so with everything now in place…

.. it was just a matter of trying out a few different poses – and so this was the final result…

.. with even a swan swimming past, to complete the the story we were trying to tell to their target market Smile.

So with one in the bag, it was time to take a look at this bathroom…

.. which we had said in our report, we felt would look good shoot in the evening.

“candles, towels, late evening feel, girl in bathrobe standing at the window or sitting on the edge of the bath.”

Decided to go in a bit tighter…

.. and so with the camera in position, it was time to work on the lighting, styling and positioning of the model..

.. which we checked on screen…

.. while we waited for the sun to set…

.. then checked again and again …

.. before everyone started to smile…

.. at this the final result…

.. before we called it a day.

Two done, ten to go – so more to follow, as tomorrow is another day Smile.

Six of these plus a whole bunch of these.

The fun continued at the Breaffy House Resort
One of the many pictures taken at the Breaffy House Resort in County Mayo.
.. as the weather quickly changed and blew everything away with it.

So we headed inside as it started to rain, to shoot the new Healy Mac’s bar…

.. which looked amazing – especially when the sun poured in through the large windows, which it clearly wasn’t anymore.

Anyway, with six of these…

.. plus a whole bunch of these…

.. and we were all set to go…

.. as Marie & Claudio assumed the position that the models would later be in.

So while we waited for everyone to arrive…

.. we did some test shots – with Claudio sitting in once again, this time with Mary Lee

Next up was the restaurant – so with the camera in the ideal position

.. everyone started to do their thing…

The large Banquet suite was next…

Which just left what we had started…

.. which I talked about here: Doing whatever it takes.

And so that was it – a big thanks to everyone involved here – from Marie, Claudio & me at ampimage – as it was then back to the Healy Mac’s bar – tired, wet but very pleased with the results – to enjoy six of these plus a whole bunch of these smile

Never work with kids and animals…

.. they say – or bank on the weather…
One of the pictures taken of the Kids play area at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. here in Ireland.

Well we were recently back down with one of our favourite clients – The Lodge at Doonbeg – where they have a well tuned market strategy aimed at showing how this stunning resort has more to offer than top class golf for anyone who doesn’t necessarily play the game. With their incredibly stylish self catering cottages, it’s ideal for family breaks…

.. and this time our role was to show the many varied attractions they have laid on…

.. to keep everyone happy & occupied during the day.

I must say the two boys where complete stars throughout…
The animal farm at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. however, getting the rabbits & chickens to pose was a bit trickier smile

Still, there is nothing quite like the appeal of a chilled drink while enjoying a beautiful sunset !! And in the west of Ireland, the sunsets over the Atlantic can be spectacular – so our goal was to capture all of this as well for their marketing material. The only problem was, when we were shooting the outdoor social area, it was mid afternoon and the clouds were rolling in fast…
Capture-157643
.. so it didn’t quite have the look we were after.

This is Ireland after all – where it rains approximately 225 days a year.

So creating that whole feeling of being there as sun sets, was challenging to say the least – but with lighting, etc…
Marie McMillen and Ray Kearney outside Darby's Bar & Restaurant at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. I think we came close to making it look like the real thing.

Anyway, as always we had a wonderful time at this 5 Star Resort – which is the home to one of the best golf courses in Ireland, built by two-time British Open champion Greg Norman – and would just like to say a big thanks to Ray for making a good call on the weather last week – it may not have been perfect but I think we got there in the end – plus a big thanks out to everyone else at Doonbeg, for all their help & co-operation throughout the days we were there.

Record low…

.. and more snow across the country last night – but the skies are blue here at the studio this morning…
Ice hanging outside the window.
.. so we are in for another lovely day by the looks of things.

Hard to know if it’s worth heading out though – because according to the BBC online weather forecast, visibility is very poor in most parts of the country today, as a record low temperature is recorded.

Quoting the words of one of my favourite songs by The Clash: “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?” – that always seems to be the big question.
