The Byerley Turk.

“Well we did agree at the start, Ivan – so I’m going to finish this beer…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and then it’s back to work”
wink

Which basically was what it was like – as we just had time for a club sandwich before we needed to set-up for the next shot – which was of the Byerley Turk restaurant here…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which they wanted us to capture after the sun had gone down – in other words a late evening shot.

Never an easy one to do, as it can be very hard to visualise how that is actually going to look, until it basically is dark outside.

Which at this time of year and especially on a day like it was today, could mean it would be nearly 10 O’Clock…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. by which time they would be starting to serve the last orders of the black stuff – so it was time to crack on,
as far as I was concerned smile

According to wikipedia:

The Byerley Turk was a dark brown or black horse of unknown breeding, but described in historic accounts as an Arabian…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. it was the earliest of three stallions that were the founders of the modern Thoroughbred horse racing bloodstock (the other two are the Godolphin Arabian and the Darley Arabian).

So while Dianne worked on the table setting…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. Ivan and Claudio started working on the lighting…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. before it was time for Claudio’s big moment…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. because yes Claudio…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. the spot light is now on you wink

And so as night time approached, we were pretty much here…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. adding a few small pools of light…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which when all pieced together – finally ended up looking like this:
The Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare

Which on The K Club’s website now looks like this…
Screen shot showing The Byerley Turk on the K Club's website
.. to let everyone see that Claudio also enjoys “a sumptuous evening dining experience” too wink

A tough one to end the day on – so it was time for a few pints of the black stuff, as I needed to keep everyone’s strength up for the following day – so more to follow, but for now that’s it from the team who just amped The Byerley Turk’s image too smile

At the end of the day.

With the days being much longer now, it meant there was no point in setting up to shoot the IVY restaurant here…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. until much later on, as they were wanting to show how this room looked at night – which does come with it’s own problems, as it means working around their guests, who are coming in for something nice to eat that evening.

So it was a case of finding my spot and setting-up early…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. while the team started to work on each of the tables…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and put up the lights.

So 10 minutes later I was pressing the button…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as that was basically it…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. expect for some people – as we naturally didn’t want this restaurant to look like it was on the Mary Celeste wink

So we started playing around on where their possible positions would be…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. before the models arrived…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as Dianne worked on the all important table closest to the camera.

Anyway, once everyone had arrived, it was time to do a few more test shots…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as the sun began to drop and night time approached – which 10 minutes it started to do – and so it was time to shoot the people for real…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. after which some last minute changes were once again made to the table in the foreground…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as the table cloth was not to our liking – and then it was a case of waiting for that twilight moment…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. to capture the final frame.

And so this was the end result…
The IVY restaurant at Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa in County Meath.
.. after it had all been pieced together – which can sometimes take longer to do than the actual shoot itself, but then that is often all part of creating of an image these days – especially one that you are hoping others will then want to use a lot over the next few years… which is naturally our goal at the end of the day smile

The Clubhouse

Besides being asked to produce some images in the MacLeod House and Lodge, we were also asked to produce some images over in the Clubhouse – which as you can see from this quick shot we took of the restaurant area back in August…
Recce shot of the restaurant in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. was lined with big windows all down one side, which looked out over the links golf course.

Our suggestions at that time:

“Two members of staff would be needed (one at the bar and one either walking down with a tray or setting a table) and a few guest wouldn’t go a miss, way at the back.

Food on the table closest to the camera, with some personal items.

Could have people outside !!

Sun light pouring in – so either lots of lights or we wait for the big guy up above to do his thing.

I’ll bring the lights just incase he is busy that day 🙂

Anyway, if the tables are turned (as we suggested), and I fill this with shafts of sunlight – to draw the eye all the way down to the back – then this will work very well.”

And so that was the shot we kicked off on trying to achieve first the following morning, as I knew if the sun was out, then it would have been basically naturally lit the way I imagined – which it was Smile.

However, as you can see here…
Setting up shot of the restaurant in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. there was one slight problem – it was busy!!

Still, not giving up hope since the light was perfect, as you can see…
Setting up shot of the restaurant in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. we decided to wait – and then the team kicked into action…
Setting up shot of the restaurant in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. setting the tables and organising people, etc, etc, as quickly as possible.

And a few minutes later, this was the result…
The restaurant in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. all thanks, as far as I’m concerned, to the big guy up above who really is the true master when it comes to lighting Smile.

“Guests to Trump International Golf Links, Scotland can be guaranteed of a luxurious yet informal environment in which they can eat, meet, dine and drink. Relax in The Brasserie at The Clubhouse and enjoy sumptuous Scottish fare and culinary classics in stylish, comfortable surroundings with sensational views across the golf course.”

At either end of the main restaurant area, are two smaller areas – and while we were there in August, I took this quick snap of Kate & Dianne…
Kate & Dianne having a bit to eat in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. having a bit to eat while discussing ideas, etc – as I just felt there was something there that could look great.

Well they clearly saw something too – Ladies having lunch – and so that was next on our list, which started out looking like this…
Setting up the Ladies having lunch shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. and after some hairdressing…
Setting up the Ladies having lunch shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. ended up looking like this…
Ladies having lunch in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. of the two girls once again, posing this time to perfection Smile.

The 3rd planned image for here, was an evening shot to show private dining – so with plenty of time to kill, we heading back to the MacLeod House to shoot this room…
Sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. which we had originally said:

“Afternnon tea – so sunny looking is what I’m thinking with possibly a member of staff setting down your cup or pouring out your tea.”

So started with this…
Setting up the shot of the South Snug sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. considered doing something like this…
Setting up the shot of the South Snug sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. then tried this…
Setting up the shot of the South Snug sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. liked what we saw…
Setting up the shot of the South Snug sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. and so this was the result…
The South Snug sitting room area at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. with Trump’s own brand and personally signed whisky taking central stage… instead of tea Wink.

Then it was back to the Clubhouse for the private dining shot – and so with the table in position it was out with the streamer…

.. while Claudio worked on the lighting – which instantly made a big difference…

.. and so after some quick test shots…
Setting up the private dining shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. the candles were lit…
Setting up the private dining shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. the models arrived…

.. and just before nightfall…
Setting up the private dining shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. this the final image that was produced…
Private dining shot in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. and so needless to say, it was time for a beer…
The ampimage team in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. followed by quite a few more that night Wink.

Because in theory that was us finished; however, there was one more shot that Dianne felt we should really do, which was of this Whisky tastings room…
The ampimage team in the Clubhouse at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. which is in the basement of the MacLeod House.

“We love this area – very unique and it does say a castle – so thinking a member of staff with one or two people sampling or looking at a bottle or glass.”

So the next morning we went down and locked her in…
Setting up the Whisky room shot at the Trump International Golf Hotel near Aberdeen in Scotland.
.. before deciding that she was possibly right – after seeing the first on the image on the screen…

.. which after making sure that Trump’s own Whisky once again took central stage…

.. this was the result…

.. which I will defiantly be putting in my portfolio, as I loved how this one turned out Smile.

And so that was it – time to pack to wagon…

.. take a quick team shot…

.. and say good-bye for now…

.. to this fairly tale castle with a huge Scottish flag in front – before catching the boat back to Ireland…

.. just as the sun when down.

And so that just leaves me to say a big Thank you to everyone at the Trump International Golf Links Hotel, for making us feel so welcome – and especially to Kate, who was brilliantly organised throughout – and of course not forgetting the big guy up above, because I know without his help, the results here would have been very, very different Wink.

So thank you all from Dianne, Claudio & me, for this wonderful opportunity to tell your story – especially at is time when the whole World is talking about Mr Trump – which in itself from an advertising & marketing point of view, is truly an amazing achievement.

So we naturally all wish him every success in achieving his goals in the run-up to the presidential election – from across the pond in bonnie Scotland Smile.

Six of these plus a whole bunch of these.

The fun continued at the Breaffy House Resort
One of the many pictures taken at the Breaffy House Resort in County Mayo.
.. as the weather quickly changed and blew everything away with it.

So we headed inside as it started to rain, to shoot the new Healy Mac’s bar…

.. which looked amazing – especially when the sun poured in through the large windows, which it clearly wasn’t anymore.

Anyway, with six of these…

.. and we were all set to go…

So while we waited for everyone to arrive…

Which just left what we had started…

And so that was it – a big thanks to everyone involved here – from Marie, Claudio & me at ampimage – as it was then back to the Healy Mac’s bar – tired, wet but very pleased with the results – to enjoy six of these plus a whole bunch of these smile

Better late than never.

Due to the poor weather we had to put our first shoot of the year back a week – still better late than never – so we headed down to Ballina in County Mayo over the weekend to produce a number of images at the Ice House Hotel, while keeping our fingers cross for a wee bit of sunshine.

Weather is always a major concern at this time of year, but there was a 50% chance of some sunshine – so rather than waiting, we kicked of in the bar…
Setting up the bar at the Ice House Hotel.
.. as they had two models booked – and so everyone set about doing their thing, which including rearranging the drinks…

.. and asking Carmel form The Marketing Department to stand in as well, while I lit it up…

.. to capture our first, of hopefully many great images of this year.

Anyway, the rain stopped and the sky turned blue – so it was straight into restaurant…

.. lights up, get everyone in place quickly and minutes before it started to rain again, we managed to get our second image in the bag…

.. which I was delighted with, as this was a biggie for both them & us.

Marie’s favourite next, a bedroom…

.. which actually took some time to set-up & light – and so while Carmel cleaned the rain drops of windows, Ken looked on and captured the moment…

.. while Marie & I added the final touches…

Short days and ever changing weather meant we then really only had time to create one more image – so it was back to the restaurant…

.. to wait for the twilight moment…

.. to capture a romantic moment…

.. and an image that got two thumbs up from everyone involved – which was a really nice way to the end the day – before Marie & I collapsed in a heap.

So better late than never – that was day one and our first shoot of the year – which was followed by serval well deserved pints of Guinness smile

Perks of the job

Day 4 of the Mount Juliet shoot entailed another very diverse mix of images !!

We kicked off with the restaurant/function room where our brief was to capture the striking ceiling plus windows. The big thing with this type of image is the placement of tables and chairs to suit the camera…
First picture taken in Kendals restaurant at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. so inevitably there’s a lot of pushing and shoving of furniture…
One of the first pictures taken in Kendals restaurant at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. but we slowly got there, as Marie worked on the table setting…
One of the first pictures taken in Kendals restaurant at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. while Stuart worked on the lighting.

Staff adding the finishing touch – conveying both ‘service’ and also to help demonstrate the scale/perspective of the room…
Kendals restaurant in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. as well as add interest.

Next up was the exterior of the house…
One of the first pictures taken outside Mount Juliet House in County Kilkenny.
.. so once again it was a case of “quick…
quick
.. the sun’s out”…
Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. as this is Ireland after all smile

The hall/lobby has some striking murals and a beautiful fireplace…
One of the first pictures taken of the foyer and staircase in Mount Juliet House at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. so part of our brief was to capture that – which when lit…
One of the first pictures taken of the foyer and staircase in Mount Juliet House at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. did look impressive.

Plus the local fishing is first class here…
quick
.. hence our cheerful angler chatting to a member of staff to complete the story.

It’s always a pleasure to do food shots…
Food at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. especially when the subject matter is so skilled and inventive as this…

.. and so when the chefs invited us to sample their work after the shoot, well…

.. it would have been rude not to smile

Relaxed Club House Style

During day 3 of the Mount Juliet shoot we worked solely in the Clubhouse area.
Once again our brief was to convey a sense of warmth and atmosphere within the informal and relaxed context of the Clubhouse.

First up was a twin bedroom…
First picture taken in the Twin bed in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. often booked by golfers – hence the accessories…
Twin bed in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. because as Marie says: not only do props need to tell a story, but they also need to be colour coordinated – spot the pops of red !!

Next up was the main bar…
First picture taken in the President’s Bar in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. which I knew would be tough one to light and include people in, especially with that dark wood ceiling – so it was all lights in for this one…
The President’s Bar in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. while Marie organised a perfect latte, a couple enjoying a drink and a guy having a pint – all very typical of the clientele !

For the conservatory restaurant, it was all hands to the pumps when the overcast skies lifted for a brief spell – quite literally ‘a window of opportunity’. Simplicity was the key with this shot…
The conservatory restaurant in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. symmetry and drawing the eye through this very pleasant area.

The member’s bar has quite similar decor & ambience to the main bar…
The Spike bar in the Clubhouse at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. but with more than a suggestion of the “19th hole”.

Last up was the golf shop – it’s a large well stocked shop so our goal was to show just that – but as the light was fading fast…
First picture taken in the Golf shop at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. we had to work quickly here, so while Stuart & I worked on the lighting…

.. Marie once again used red to drawing the eye through.

Day 4 to follow.

It’s a long way to Tipperary…

.. and that’s where we were this weekend, shooting at the Abbey Court Hotel…
The Abbey Court Hotel near Nenagh in County Tipperary.
.. near Nenagh.

The weather was beautiful; however, most of the images where indoors, so we where glad to have Scott with us – because as you see from the images below, which show the 1st first shot and the final image – we had to work hard on both the styling and the lighting here.

Started with the swimming pool in the morning, as it was quiet…
Setting up the pool shot
.. and so we where able to light it up nicely…

.. which Scott did a great job on, especially getting a light out that window…

Then it was down to the restaurant…

.. of the Abbey Monks – before finally going into the bar…

Anyway, it may be “A long way to Tipperary”; however, I was very pleased with the results – so a big thanks to everyone involved this weekend and especially to the staff for their time.

Go West.

Just back from shooting at the West County Hotel in Ennis this week…

A tough one as the place was busy…

..and so we had to work around their guests…

Clare Inn and the George.

We have been shooting at the Clare Inn Hotel in County Clare…
The Clare Inn Hotel in Co Clare
.. and at the George Hotel in Limerick this week…
George Hotel
.. to create images like this…

.. as well as many others.

Favourite image has to be this one, of the Blue Dolphin Kids Club

However, Renae here…
