“Stop looking at the clock”

“And start looking at what is actually in front of you, because you are in fact living the dream” – is what I said to my team here, as they were trying very hard to speed things up during this shoot.

Because let’s face it, life really doesn’t get much better than this…
Claudio Salviato on the balcony of the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. or at least not for me it doesn’t – as I simply couldn’t afford to even dream of staying at a place like this…
The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. never mind standing on the balcony of their Presidential suite.

So enjoy the moment while it lasts…
Behind the scenes at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. because I can assure you, I was in no hurry to leave Wink

Anyway, the last image was to show that balcony of the Presidential suite and the view of their gardens and golf course – which the day before we talked over with Susie, as we tried to find the best angle…
Behind the scenes at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
..which in the end I reckoned was from the window near the top of the stairs…
Behind the scenes at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. so worth taking a shot of…
Behind the scenes at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. because I would rarely not use a tripod…

.. even when working with the 503.

Anyway, other than where it was taken from…
Behind the scenes at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. it was a pretty straightforward shot…
The balcony and view from the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. to complete the dream, of what The K Club has to offer it’s extra special guests.

And so it was now time to look at the clock – as we packed…

.. because I’m trying to workout how long it will be before we are back here again Wink

The Master Bedroom.

In the Presidential suite, with its four-poster bed was next up…

.. and so while Dianne did a spot of ironing…

.. Claudio once again puts a light outside…

.. and I took a quick shot of the kids…
One of the first pictures taken in the bedroom of the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. to see if that sort of thing would work.

Which we decided against in the end, as Susie wanted to show that this as the parent’s room or master bedroom in this suite, as it had another bedroom on the other side of the living room that we had just shot.

So we thanked the children for their time, as they had already been amazing – and then Claudio put up another light outside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club.
.. which as you can see here…
One of the first pictures taken in the bedroom of the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. lit up the bed beautifully.

Love it – and almost there I reckoned, as I stood back to let Dianne have a look…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club.
.. while the sweat ran down my back, due to this amazing weather that we were getting – which naturally we complained about, as we are just not used to it here in Ireland – so there is just no pleasing us sometimes when it comes to the weather Smile

Anyway, she wasn’t happy neither at what she saw on the screen here…
One of the first pictures taken in the bedroom of the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. and Claudio agreed with her – so I was outnumbered 2 to 1 Wink

But they were right – as this was the final result…
The master bedroom in the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. a few minutes later – so can you spot the difference Wink

Anyway, that was it as we called it a day and headed for the bar – where Claudio and I ‘talked shop’ until the wee small hours of the following day, as this was like living the dream for both of us – with 3 down and only 2 to go Smile

The Presidential suite.

At the at The K Club was next up…
One of the first pictures taken in the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. so while I looked at the first images on the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. Dianne worked on the styling…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. as Claudio set up the lights.

Then our star guests arrived…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. as Susie here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. was wanting to show this as a room that would suit a family too.

So while Dianne worked on the cushions, to try and give them a bit more shape…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. I talked to Susie about how I saw it now, as I wasn’t overly convinced that this was going to work…
One of the first pictures taken in the Presidential suite at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. but by the look on everyone face here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. I wasn’t actually doing a very good job of Smile

Anyway, kids sitting on the sofa was my thinking here now…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. so after getting a green-light on that, it was time to sort the hair out…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. and then minutes later this was the result…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at The K Club near Straffan in County Kildare.
.. as they both posed to perfection – while both of their mothers look on Wink

And so that was two done – one to go before we would call it a day – as none of us were in a rush for this dream to end Smile

How it looks today.

At the end of each month, my computer’s dairy reminds me of which licenses are about to expire.

So this month, for example, three are about to expire – and so the reminder emails were sent out yesterday to let them all know ahead of time.

Just a quick note to let you know Licence No. 20120913-00016726 expires on the 30th September 2014.

Description:-
5 images of various rooms and areas at Ashford Castle in Cong.
DVD Reference: 20100712 Ashford
For exclusive use, for Ashford Castle to use these images for:-
Media use: Worldwide web & promotional emails only.
Period of use: 2 years (ends 30th September 2014).
Territory of use: Internet only.
(BUR £200.00 per image).

So if you would like to extend the license period, on one or more of these images, please let us know by the end of the month.

And in this case their reply was:

Dear Ashley
Many thanks but we will NOT be renewing the Licence , as Ashford has been completely Restored in the past year , since Ashford was bought by Red Carnation hotels.
Trust all is well with you and Maire and hope to see you both again soon.
Very best regards

So I decided to have a wee look to see how the castle now looks, as we had talked to Suzie from the Red Carnation Hotels last year about all of this, during this shoot…
The Doorman at Ashford Castle in County Mayo talking to a guest on the bridge.

.. which we talked about here: Welcome to Ashford Castle.

And yes there has indeed been a lot of changes – so I’m not surprised that they no longer need to use our images anymore.

Anyway, many of the new images they now show on their website are of rooms and areas of the hotel we never shot; however, I did notice a few have been re-captured by a London photographer – who says he aims to create natural feeling imagery that brings out the best in people, places and all things in general”.

So was obviously very interested to see how those rooms now looked – both in terms of decor and naturally how they had been photographed too – as I remember this being a tough one to shoot back in 2010, which I talked about here: Ashford Castle in County Mayo.

So here are two of them: “Space to relax and entertain in the lovingly restored Presidential Suite”  – as it looks today…

(The newly restored Presidential Suite at Ashford Castle)

.. as opposed to how it looked back in 2010…

.. and  “Enjoy fine dining in the George V dining room, lovingly restored”  – as it looks today…

.. as opposed to how it looked back in 2010…

.. when we produced this image of it.

Love what they have done here in terms of decor – but not so sure about those images – so may just reply:

No problems and thanks for letting us know.

Trust all is well with everyone at Ashford Castle – and yes, no doubt we will be seeing you’ll again real soon, to produce some new images that you will want to use.

Since that is what I feel they really now need here – to help them market & advertise this magnificent old castle throughout the world- which currently looks to have been beautifully restored.

Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

Anyway, one down and two to go, so we will see how it goes – but I sure would like to make that place sing for them, as it is, without doubt, one of Ireland’s most magnificent hotels wink

Capturing the atmosphere.

There are some stunning Castle hotels in Ireland and we have been delighted to shoot several of them over the past few years.

Last week brought us back down to Dromoland Castle Hotel & Country Club – a luxurious, elegant 5 star hotel in County Clare – where they needed some new images produced for their marketing & advertising material – to show not only the new look of their adjoining Country Club bar…
The Club House bar and restaurant at Dromoland Castle in County Clare.
.. and restaurant…

.. but also their newly decorated bedroom suites as well.

Anyway, all went according to plan at first; however, the little snug/library area in the clubhouse proved a waiting game for us – as we felt it was important to capture a cozy relaxed ambiance…
First image taken at the Library at the Clubhouse in Dromoland Castle
..but of all times, the weather was sunny. And so we just had to sit it out, while Carl poked the fire a few times, as he acted the part of the would-be model…

.. until the sky darkened.

But hopefully, it was well worth the wait…

.. as who wouldn’t want to relax in front of that roaring fire – especially at this time of year, here in Ireland!

The following day – as well as shooting many of their luxury bedroom suites…

.. which as you can see here…

.. are simply stunning – we also shot their new Presidential suite…

.. which had a suitably luxurious new bathroom fitted.

So once again, it was all about team work…
Setting up in the bathroom at Dromoland Castle
.. and getting the right sort of ambience – lighting, candles, roses, champagne, etc, etc – all of which played their role, to achieve that all important result, where potential guests look at the final image…

.. and say: I want to be there smile.

So a big ‘Thank you’ to Mark, the Manager, and all his highly professional team for looking after us so well – it truly was a wonderful shoot – and we hope we managed to capture not only the decor but also the atmosphere, for all the world to see what an amazing place Dromoland Castle is famous for.
