Shooting me shooting you shooting…

.. was how the day started, as we set-up the camera & lights…
Shooting set-up
.. while waiting for the sun to come out and play – for at least a few minutes.
Then it was shoot, shoot, shoot…
Shooting them shooting
.. followed by that hand nail bitting: “Did I get it ?” moment…
Did we get it
.. as I flicked through the images on screen, while the Scottish guests (our models here) looked on.

Because this was another shot that I’d worried about…

.. but I needn’t have worried, as I think this is my favorite shot of the week.

So happy with that one – it was ‘pack & rack’ time – and then over to the driving range to produce some images of their golf Pro, Sean Cotter, in action.

Looking good Stuart…
Stuart waiting
.. but where’s the blue skies & sunshine ?

So while we waited, Shane practiced his swing while Sean gave him a few pointers…
Getting some lessons
.. meanwhile Stuart – by the looks of it…
It's time to start
.. prayed for sunshine Smile

Clearly it worked – because minutes later we had blue skies and sunshine…
Looking good
.. and so with everything set-up – thanks mainly to Stuart – it was a very simple one to capture in the end:

Anyway, since the sun was still shining, we headed across the golf course and quickly set-up…

.. to capture Sean in action…

.. with his buggy in the foreground and the Clubhouse in the background – to complete the story.

Quick check…
Check the screen
.. and then it was over to the putting green in front of Mount Juliet House…
Shane with reflector
.. where we did a double take…

.. so ‘no Shane, you aren’t in the final image’ Smile

Going well – but with the totally unpredictable weather, we decided to leave the family shots for another time.
So to finish of the day, we headed back over to the Spa to discover this lovely young lady…
Treatment room set-up
.. who happened to be Shane’s wife – was all ready to go…

.. and then go again…

.. in the relaxation room – which is like the perfect way to end the day here at Mount Juliet.

Hard work or hardy working – either way, it’s Guinness time Smile

Plan B

Well, we were back at Mount Juliet in County Kilkenny – the plan being that we would take advantage of the summer weather this time – as it was late in October that we were down here last.

So Plan A is to shoot outdoors – to show the various activities that are available to guests on this amazing country estate.

Plan B – as this is Ireland and it will therefore probably rain – is to shoot some of the other indoor areas & rooms that we hadn’t captured before.

Anyway, thankfully I fixed the leaking sunroofs on the Land Rover, because on day one it poured down – and so it was Plan B – kicking of in a room we had already shot before, but this time the goal was to make it look more like a bridal suite – for the wedding section on their website & brochures.

So it was all hands on board to turn this room…
Honeymoon suite before.
.. into a Honeymoon suite…

.. before a bite of lunch.

Then it was up to the top floor to shoot Room 28 – as the guests had just left – which was a room that had been recently re-decorated. So once it again it was all hands on board…
Bedroom suite before.
.. making the bed & styling the room, before lighting it…

.. which was tricky enough to achieve considering the weather outside.

Anyway, continuing with Plan B, it was then over to the Clubhouse to shoot the locker room – which everyone seemed to want to be in…
Setting up in the Locker room after.
.. however, it ended up looking like this…

.. before we finally shot the reception area in the Spa and then calling it a day.

So 4 down but lots to go – should the sun come out to play.

Perks of the job

Day 4 of the Mount Juliet shoot entailed another very diverse mix of images !!

We kicked off with the restaurant/function room where our brief was to capture the striking ceiling plus windows. The big thing with this type of image is the placement of tables and chairs to suit the camera…
First picture taken in Kendals restaurant at Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. so inevitably there’s a lot of pushing and shoving of furniture…

.. but we slowly got there, as Marie worked on the table setting…

.. while Stuart worked on the lighting.

Staff adding the finishing touch – conveying both ‘service’ and also to help demonstrate the scale/perspective of the room…

.. as well as add interest.

Next up was the exterior of the house…

.. so once again it was a case of “quick…
quick
.. the sun’s out”…
Mount Juliet Country Estate in County Kilkenny.
.. as this is Ireland after all smile

The hall/lobby has some striking murals and a beautiful fireplace…

.. so part of our brief was to capture that – which when lit…

.. did look impressive.

Plus the local fishing is first-class here…
quick
.. hence our cheerful angler chatting to a member of staff to complete the story.

It’s always a pleasure to do food shots…

.. especially when the subject matter is so skilled and inventive as this…

.. and so when the chefs invited us to sample their work after the shoot, well…
food
.. it would have been rude not to smile

Ireland does golf well

I may not be a golfer myself, however, I enjoy watching our Irish boys doing well – and it was great to follow the recent Irish Open in Portrush.

We had a most enjoyable meeting and recce trip during the week with the management of Mount Juliet Country Estate – a stunning 5-star resort in County Kilkenny, which includes a championship golf course. The grounds and parkland course are so immaculate, it’s obvious why it is rated so highly and has hosted some major tournaments.

Before shooting a hotel, we spend a lot of time just trying to understand the Client’s needs – so we take loads of recce shots; we listen carefully to the Client and then we produce a Concept Report…
Concept report for Mount Juliet Country Club by Ashley Morrison and Marie McMillen.
.. suggesting images that we feel will work for them over the next few years.

It’s a time-consuming exercise but as our strapline says – “great shots don’t just happen” !!

So hopefully a bit like the Irish Open at Royal Portrush, we will back down to Mount Juliet Country Estate sooner rather than later as a result.
