Charlotte Hamel’s modern apartment here…
Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin's stylish docklands area.
.. in Dublin’s stylish docklands area, was where we were shooting a few months ago.

Started upstairs in the sitting room area…
One of the first pictures taken in the sitting room area of Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin.
.. which after a bit of pushing & shoving of furniture around – as well as adding some additional light – ended up looking like this…
The sitting room in Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin's stylish docklands area.
.. after about an hour.

So a bit of a slow start on the first one – but once we had that done, then we were able to produce a number of detail shots like is…
The Eiffel Tower window display in the sitting room in Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin's stylish docklands area.
.. of the Eiffel Tower window display – which clearly told us all were Charlotte was originally from Smile

Very creative and beautiful too…
Charlotte Hamel in the sitting room of her modern apartment in Dublin's stylish docklands area.
.. so after a slow start, we were now on a roll.

The kitchen was small, as one would half expect in a city apartment – so it didn’t take Marie long to sort it all out…
One of the first pictures taken in the kitchen of Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin.
.. and after it was lit, this was the result…

.. which was followed by the main living & dining area in the apartment – which was at this stage, as you can see here…

.. in a bit of a mess due mainly to us wink

Anyway, once again Marie wasn’t long in sorting it all out…

.. and the end result…

.. I thought looked pretty amazing – ‘wow’ in fact.

Which just left the bathroom and this bedroom to shoot…

.. which once again didn’t take that long to do, once it had been lit…

.. and styled for the camera.

So a wee touch of France in Ireland is how I viewed this one – it was lovely – and so it came as no great surprise to see it being featured in the latest issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine this month…
Pages 66 to 69 in the October 2015 issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine - featuring Charlotte Hamel's modern apartment in Dublin's stylish docklands area.
.. on pages 66 to 69 – which I talked about here: Wow, Wow, Wow, Wow and double Wow.

So just want to say a big thanks to Charlotte here for inviting us in – and yes we would both totally agree with you when you emailed us later to say:

OMG! It is stunning!

– because it is, thanks mainly to you and your creative flair smile

Tower Transformation.

Ancient History is the title of our current published work in the May 2015 issue of Period Ideas magazine…
Pages 22 to 27 in the May 2015 issue of Period Ideas magazine featuring Angela and John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France
on pages 22 to 27 – featuring Angela and John Goodwin’s Tower house in the Tarn region of France.

“Angela and John Goodwin found their dream home in a hill-top village in the south of France.”

Which we talked about shooting here: A real life fairy tale back in 2005.

So Ancient History it may be for some, but for me this will always have been a real life fairy tale come true – so once again a huge thanks to Angela and John here…
John abd Angela Goodwin outside their Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. for inviting us in – and to Steve at Chilli Media too, for this lovely 6 page feature.

From Marie & me, who are being reminded once again of those wonderful days we spend in France, thank you for this tower of transformation smile

A real life fairy tale.

A 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes-sur-Ciel in the French Tarn region…
John and Angela Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. which belonged to Angela & John Goodwin, was our home for a few days while we shoot in this area – and what a magnificent place it was too…
John & Angela Goodwin's 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. like something you’d normally only expect to see in a fairy tale book smile

THE STORY:

The couple went out to find and refurbish a wreck but ended up with a readymade home which one friend said was like something out of a fairytale. By immersing themselves in the French way of life they are now fully fledged Francophiles enjoying a home which is the epitome of rustic manor house living.

First impressions?
“Ironically, this isn’t the type of property we’d usually go for. Our previous two homes in France had been ‘projects’ and indeed so had our last home in Devon before we moved here permanently 16 years ago. We’ve always really enjoyed the challenge of doing up a property and putting our own stamp on it – but when we viewed the tower house all the major work had already been carried out. We just couldn’t resist the wow factor we know France well – we’d holidayed here for 20 years before John took the chance of early retirement and we moved out here – and we knew this particular area in the Tarn region very well as a previous property of ours had been on the south-west coastline. But once we discovered and fell in love with the quaint little medieval hill town of Cordes-sur-Ciel, we knew this was where our next move would take us.”

Their favorite room – and mine too – was the living room…
The living room in Angela & John Goodwin's 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. with its double height, overlooked by a gallery – and centers around this huge fireplace…
The fireplace in the living room in Angela and John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. which they light in winter because it does actually get quite cold here it seems.

Talking about lighting, that was a challenge for sure, as capturing the atmosphere of this wonderful old place…
Four poster bed in the master bedroom of Angela & John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. was for me, what it was all about.

This wonderfully romantic four poster bed is the centerpiece of the master bedroom, which was bought locally and the rest of the room is furnished with a range of antiques sourced in nearby Albi.

Marie, on the other hand, was more concerned about how the table setting looked…
Marie setting the table in the conservatory of Angela & John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. before Angela stood in…
Angela Goodwin in the conservatory of her 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. to showed her how it was done wink

Anyway, we stayed in what we referred to as ‘our wee cave’ – which was underneath and right beside the swimming pool…
John & Angela Goodwin's 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. which was just amazing – but this was the other option…
Guest bedroom in Angela & John Goodwin's 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. which was in the tower section – with its own spiral staircase which leads to a glass-floored mezzanine level above.

Stunning or what ?

And this is why I love shooting homes abroad so much, as you not only get to see things like this – which you just wouldn’t see back in the UK or Ireland – but you also get to meet the truly amazing people behind all it too.

And Angela & John where definitely two of those amazing people – who even went to the trouble to set-up this final shot…
Angela & John Goodwin setting up outside their 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. to complete our story of how they had made their dream come true…
Angela & John Goodwin outside their 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur Ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. and what a dream that was too !!

Which just leaves me to say: Thank you from Marie & me to you both – as this one fairy tale we will never forget.

Featured in the October issue of BBC Good Homes magazine the following year…
Pages 118 to 123 of the October 2006 issue of BBC Good Homes magazine featuring Angela and John Goodwin's 15th century Manoir or Tower house near the medieval hill village of Cordes sur Ciel in the French Tarn region.
.. and in Templeton Robinson‘s Property Life magazine…
Pages 8 to 19 in the 13th issue of Property Life magazine featuring Angela and John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. titled ‘Living the dream’ the year after that – plus in Northern Ireland Homes & Lifestyle magazine the year after that too…
Pages 46 to 54 in the June 2008 issue of Northern Ireland Homes & Lifestyle magazine featuring Angela and John Goodwin's Tower house in the Tarn region of France.
.. on pages 46 to 54.

All of which looked stunning and was lovely to see – as it is like seeing our fairy tale each year come true again as well smile

(Added Note: We are always on the lookout for such homes by the way – so should you happen to know of one and the homeowners are up for it, please do get in touch – as we’d sure love to feature their dream).

Anyway, that’s it from Marie & me in this real life fairy tale, set in the beautiful Tarn region of France – which we have returned to and plan to do again – but that’s another story for another time, which one day I’ll write about too wink

Cheers,
Ashley

A former goat shelter.

After crossing the Irish Sea – on route to meet Rachel from the BBC, to shoot Duncan’s French Riviera villa in the hills overlooking Cannes, which I talked here: In the Dragons’ Den – we stopped to meet landscape designer Bradley Viljoen, and shoot his four-bedroom hillside villa…
Marie McMillen sitting outside Bradley Viljoen's hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. formerly an agricultural goat shelter building, built in the mid 19th-century, near the French village of Cordes-sur-Ciel in the Tarn region of France.

As a garden and landscape designer based in London England, Bradley Viljoen spends his time creating other people’s dreams. A few years ago, along with partner Mark Smith, they decided it was time to do something for them – they decided to live the dream across The Channel in France.

“The idea was to create a beautiful home and garden to enjoy whenever we could, with the hope of living there permanently one day,” says Bradley. “We would rent it out for a few weeks a year to generate a bit of income so we could continue to improve the property and to create a garden.”

No work in her…
Marie McMillen in the sitting of Bradley Viljoen's hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. but nevertheless, when a home looks this good…
The sitting of Bradley Viljoen's hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. who could blame Marie for just wanting to sit down and enjoy it – as Bradley & Mark had done a fabulous job here.

“We’d spent quite some time checking out various regions, firstly via the online agencies and then by visiting various regions. We didn’t really know much about the Tarn until we actually visited it back in the summer of 2001. But once we came here we just fell in love with it,” says Bradley. “Southcentral France has a wonderfully diverse landscape of rolling plains to gentle mountains, it’s crisscrossed by rivers and lakes and enjoys a rich heritage of ancient villages, castles, churches, and gastronomy. We just felt it was the ideal spot for us among the rolling vineyards and unspoiled natural environment.”

Still, a bit of work was needed to light the place and get everything tickety-boo for the camera – but Bradley here…
Bradley Viljoen in the kitchen of his hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. was more than ready and as you can see, had the whole place, including the bedrooms…
Master bedroom in Bradley Viljoen's hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. sitting up looking pretty much picture perfect.

“We wanted to achieve something that would embrace the best of living at home with the best of living out here and I’m pleased with how it’s all come together – our little bit of entente cordiale.”

So we actually managed to rattle through this one quite quickly, but the wonderful memories have lived on much longer – as we managed to get this featured in Britain’s No.1 Home Magazine, Ideal Home
Pages 84 to 88 in the July 2006 issue of Ideal Home magazine featuring Bradley Viljoen and Mark Smith's mid 19th-century hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. which appeared the following summer in their July issue – and also in Templeton Robinson‘s Property Life magazine too, the year after that…
Pages 38 to 46 in issue 10 of Templeton Robinson's Property Life magazine featuring Bradley Viljoen and Mark Smith's mid 19th-century hillside villa located in the Tarn region of France.
.. which I’ve got to say looked absolutely stunning.

A former goat shelter it may have been, but definitely not any longer – and so we’d just like to say a big thank you to both Bradley & Mark, for this very special day which we will always remember.

From Marie & me in the Tarn region, having fun on route to the French Riviera, to meet Rachel from the BBC for the very first time & the famous Duncan Bannatyne too smile

Wow, Wow and triple Wow!

Seeing one’s work in print, even after nearly 30 years of seeing it printed, is still the thing I love most about what we do.

It’s like Wow! every time – and the bigger it’s printed or the better it’s printed, then the more Wow it often is – as we would often put a lot into each and every image, which I feel can only really be appreciated, when viewed up close a lot of the time.

So when I walked into the local SPAR supermarket yesterday and quickly looked that the magazine rack, I was totally over the moon – to not only see our work on the cover of the August 2014 issue of Ireland’s Homes Interiors & Living magazine…
The cover plus pages 72 to 83 of the August 2014 issue of Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living magazine featuring Janet and Ken Hamilton's villa called 'Jasmin' near the French Riviera village of St Paul de Vence.
.. but also to see it beautifully printed on pages 72 to 83 – featuring Janet and Ken Hamilton’s villa called ‘Jasmin’ near the French Riviera village of St Paul de Vence.

The French Connection – Transforming a pretty but rather dated French villa, Janet and Ken from Northern Ireland have created their dream holiday home in a style that successfully blends old and new.

Which I talked about shooting here: Kicking off – back in 2010 – as this is were we stayed while shooting for Liz Gibney Interiors in the French Riviera near the village…
The French Riviera village of Saint Paul-de-Vence.
.. of Saint Paul-de-Vence.

Wow! smile

However, the Wow didn’t end there, as a home we shot in Italy back in 2006…
La Dolce Vita - Pages 58 to 71 of the August 2014 issue of Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living magazine featuring Tia and Bruce Weissman's Italian villa located near Amelia in Umbria.
.. lead on pages 58 to 71 – featuring Tia and Bruce Weissman’s Italian villa located near Amelia in Umbria.

La Dolce Vita – After a two year search, Bruce and Tia found their dream Italian home, a 300 year old villa complete with stunning gardens.

Which I talked about shooting here the other day: Living la Dolce Vita – while shooting a farmhouse for the BBC near the Italian town of Amelia, which sits on a hill…
The town of Amelia sitting on a hill in the south western corner of Umbria in Italy.
.. in the south western corner of Umbria.

So double Wow! smile smile

And Wow again when I saw this…
Mediterranean Charm - Pages 82 to 94 of the August 2014 issue of Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living magazine featuring John O'Callaghan's villa called 'Villa Thalia' at Aphrodite Hills near Paphos in Cyprus.
.. on pages 82 to 94 – featuring John O’Callaghan’s villa called ‘Villa Thalia’ at Aphrodite Hills near Paphos in Cyprus.

Mediterranean Charm – After a number of holidays in Cyprus, John from Belfast wanted a little corner of the sunshine island to call his own and found it in a luxury holiday complex.

Which again I talked about shooting the other day here: The story behind the story – which we shot back in 2006 while shooting a few other villas at Aphrodite Hills, which is nestled in the hills…
The view from Tommy Payne's apartment at Aphrodite Hills in Cyprus.
.. above Paphos in Cyprus.

So that was like triple Wow! smile smile smile

Anyway, stunning repro as always – which is what I love so much about this magazine – so this is just a quick note to say a big thanks to everyone involved here – and especially to Janet, Tia and John once again, for this time making it into this beautifully printed Irish glossy magazine.

From Marie, Mandi & me @ ampimage.com – Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.

Déjà View…

.. is the title of our latest published work in the July 2011 issue of Period Living magazine…
Pages 74 to 82 in the July 2011 issue of Period Living magazine featuring Janet and Ken Hamilton's villa called 'Jasmin' near the French Riviera village of St Paul de Vence.
.. on pages 74 to 80 – featuring Janet and Ken Hamilton’s villa called ‘Jasmin’ near the French Riviera village of St Paul de Vence.

“When Janet and Ken Hamilton started looking for a French getaway to renovate they were delighted to find a villa they’d stayed in years before.”

And this lovely wee note from the magazine’s Features Editor…
Compliment slip
.. which really made my day smile

Plus we are also delighted to hear that the feature has already attracted a very nice enquiry – a reader who has just seen the villa in the magazine, wrote to say: “simply have to stay there”.
Having stayed there for the photoshoot, we can totally endorse the fact that it is stunning.
Janet & Ken did a superb job on it in every way – the ultimate “I want to be there” sort of place – overlooking the French Riviera village of Saint-Paul de Vence.

So a big Merci to everyone involved – nous voulons être là aussi.

.. so decided to take a quick snap of Le Mont Saint-Michel on this beautiful sunny morning…

The strike here in France means we will be cutting it fine on fuel, as it’s been a long drive…

.. however, we should be fine as we are now close to Cherbourg.

It’s been a great trip – so a big thanks to all those involved in helping us create images like these…

La Petite Maison.

Shooting today at Pierre Emmanuel & Amy de Leusse’s stone-built 18th-century cottage called La Petite Maison
Pierre Emmanuel and Amy de Leusse's Villa La Petite Maison which is nestled in the heart of the Gers countryside on the edge of the charming village Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit near Condom.
.. which is nestled in the heart of the Gers countryside, on the edge of the charming village Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit near Condom.

The storyline:

Amy (20’s) is English (from London) but moved to Paris a few years ago where she works as an Art PR.
She and Pierre Emanuelle, who is French, only got married last week !!

Amy knew about the little house before it came on the market – it was a huge financial step for her to buy it !!
She had to present a business plan to the Bank to secure the mortgage – but she loved the little place so much she was determined to make it her own.

Anyway, the weather has changed so a lot more lighting was required…
Setting up the living room
.. to create that ‘sunny’ look…

.. that one would expect to see…
Setting up the bedroom
.. both inside…
The guest bedroom in Pierre Emmanuel and Amy de Leusse's villa called 'La Petite Maison' which is nestled in the heart of the Gers countryside on the edge of the charming village Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit near Condom.
.. and out…
Amy de Leusse and Pierre Emmanuel outside their villa La Petite Maison which is nestled in the heart of the Gers countryside on the edge of the charming village Saint-Orens-Pouy-Petit near Condom.
.. as this is France we are talking about here – not Ireland 🙂

So we both had to work surprisingly hard on this one, even though it was, in theory, sitting up perfect.
Still, very pleased with the end results – which is all that anyone will really ever see or even remember – and so fingers crossed for a good result on the editorial front – and hopefully we will all see it in print next year.

Anyway, that was day 10 for Marie & me, on this amazing road trip.

Spot the difference.

On Day 7 – our last day’s shooting in the South of France – we shot another project for Liz Gibney…
Setting up the shot
.. this time, a very elegant and stylish villa near the French Riviera village of Saint-Paul de Vence…
The living room in Liz and Jim Gibney's villa near the French Riviera village of Saint-Paul de Vence.
.. which they had worked on.

It was for the most part, sitting up perfect…
The master bedroom before it was lit
.. so really just needed to be lit…
The master bedroom in Liz and Jim Gibney's villa near the French Riviera village of Saint-Paul de Vence.
.. after Marie & Liz had tweaked a few things to suit the camera.

So it was like ‘spot the difference’ on day 7 – and then on day 8 we packed-up and heading North, to the beautiful rural Armagnac region of France.

Which means more to follow – so watch this space !!

Casa Rocca Bruna.

Today we were shooting another of Liz Gibney’s (Interior Designer) projects.

This time it’s a beautiful Boutique Guest House, Casa Rocca Bruna

Working closely with the owner…
Setting up inside Casa Rocca Bruna
.. Liz’s goal was to create a stylish individual interior…

.. with a real sense of relaxation & comfort.

She clearly achieved all that and then some…
Casa Rocca Bruna
.. what a gem !!

The stunning setting and views are clearly their USP here…
Setting up the view shot from Casa Rocca Bruna
.. so our role in this shot, was to try and capture that.

Anyway, that was day 6, so a big thanks to Aidan – as seen here…

It really has been a fantastic working trip so far – more to follow !!
