You love a challenge!

We were back down last week to create some new images for our long-standing client Doonbeg Golf Resort. It has been fascinating to see how they keep adding to their guest experience – and each time they bring something new to the table, needless to say, they want it captured for all to see.

Their latest offering is a very stylish beauty salon which is ideally located beside their luxury White Horse Spa.

With no natural light and lots of mirrors…

.. Ray (Marketing manager) simply said: You love a challenge!

Anyway, as always, it was a pleasure to work with them…

..on the various images…

.. so we wish them every success with this latest venture.

We have shot lots Irish style bars over the years – the key is to convey a sense of warmth and atmosphere – a cold empty looking bar is never going to make potential clients say “I want to be there”.

So when we were down last week, we also shot their bar and restaurant in the golf club, which they call Darby’s bar.

The black wooden ceiling look great to the eye…

.. however, it sure didn’t make my life easy from a lighting perspective…

.. so a serious number of lights had to be used for this one – which needless to say was a challenge…
Trump's Bar and Restaurant - formly known as Darby's bar - at the Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in County Clare.
.. as we pieced the image together…

.. while their guests looked on

Still, I think in the end we managed to capture the warmth of this very appealing bar…

.. without disrupting too many people, which is always a factor when doing this type of shot !!

Anyway, big thanks to Ray and all the staff at Doonbeg here, who worked alongside us to create these wonderful & challenging images

Never work with kids and animals…

.. they say – or bank on the weather…
One of the pictures taken of the Kids play area at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. here in Ireland.

Well we were recently back down with one of our favourite clients – The Lodge at Doonbeg – where they have a well-tuned market strategy aimed at showing how this stunning resort has more to offer than top class golf for anyone who doesn’t necessarily play the game. With their incredibly stylish self-catering cottages, it’s ideal for family breaks…

.. and this time our role was to show the many varied attractions they have laid on…

.. to keep everyone happy & occupied during the day.

I must say the two boys where complete stars throughout…
The animal farm at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. however, getting the rabbits & chickens to pose was a bit trickier smile

Still, there is nothing quite like the appeal of a chilled drink while enjoying a beautiful sunset !! And in the west of Ireland, the sunsets over the Atlantic can be spectacular – so our goal was to capture all of this as well for their marketing material. The only problem was when we were shooting the outdoor social area, it was mid-afternoon and the clouds were rolling in fast…
Capture-157643
.. so it didn’t quite have the look we were after.

This is Ireland after all – where it rains approximately 225 days a year.

So creating that whole feeling of being there as sunsets, was challenging to say the least – but with lighting, etc…
Marie McMillen and Ray Kearney outside Darby's Bar & Restaurant at The Lodge at Doonbeg in County Clare.
.. I think we came close to making it look like the real thing.

Anyway, as always we had a wonderful time at this 5 Star Resort – which is the home to one of the best golf courses in Ireland, built by two-time British Open champion Greg Norman – and would just like to say big thanks to Ray for making a good call on the weather last week – it may not have been perfect but I think we got there in the end – plus big thanks out to everyone else at Doonbeg, for all their help & co-operation throughout the days we were there.

Honeymoon suite plus.

We were back down at Doonbeg Golf & Spa Resort this week, to produce some more images to cover weddings and show their newly refurbished Link Cottages.

To the eye, the newly refurbished Link’s Cottage looked great; however, the camera does sometimes see things very differently – as you can see here…
Setting-up the Link's cottage shot.
.. but with a wee bit of pushing & shoving – a blast of light, plus some Marie magic added to the mix…
The link cottages.
.. we had our first image in the bag pretty quickly- as this is what we do.

First I set up the camera to get the framing…
Setting-up the kitchen shot in Link's cottage.
.. then we re-arranged things to suit the camera – and while I work on the lighting, Marie adds the finishing touches…
Setting-up the kitchen shot in Link's cottage.
.. without saying anything to one another sometimes, until we both stop – and say…
The kitchen in the Link's cottage.
.. I’m happy with that.

Anyway, shooting the cottage was just like shooting a home – which we regularly do for the national magazines – so that was easy 🙂

The tricker shots where the wedding ones – as those actually needed to be created.
So after some discussion with Ray (the marketing manager) and having looked a few different rooms, we decided that this one…
Setting-up the Honeymoon suite.
.. would be the most suitable, to be turned into a honeymoon suite.

So once again, while I worked on the lighting, Marie…
Marie McMillen.
.. when about doing her thing.

It took forever – but in the end we where all very pleased with the final result…
Honeymoon suite at Doonbeg Golf & Spa Resort.
.. and so now Doonbeg has officially got themselves a Honeymoon suite 🙂

Anyway, that’s what we were up to this week – as we worked with Ray here, to let the world see what this amazing place has to offer.

Cheers, from Marie & me.

Christmas at Doonbeg.

Yes, we are still producing Christmas images one week into January – so as you can see here behind the sliding glass entrance door into the lobby…
Setting up the fireplace shot at Doonbeg.
.. it was all hands on board, as Paul & Marie worked their magic to help create what has got to be one of my all time favour Christmas images…
Christmas at Doonbeg Golf & Spa Resort.
.. which really does say, in my opinion, “A very warm welcome” to Doonbeg at this time of year.

But it wasn’t all about Christmas, as they also needed some images created to show their beautiful Spa area too – which is called ‘White Horses’ – down in the basement…
White Horses Spa.
.. meaning: not much natural light.
Still, after setting up a few lights and Paul lit a few candles…
Setting up in the Spa.
.. it was showtime..
The Spa area.
.. and another “Money shot”, as Ray the marketing manager calls them, in the bag.

However, with no natural light down here…
Setting up in the Spa.
.. needless to say, it was a challenge to create images like this…
The Spa area.
.. or even this one in the hot tub – which I completely missed the focus on…
Hot tub.
.. but everyone still seemed to love it anyway – so go figure that wink

So yes, it was a pretty major lighting job for sure…
Setting up in the treatment room.
.. as Paul had to work hard here…
Setting up in the treatment room.
.. and Marie naturally too on the styling – but I’ve got to say, I think it was worth it – as this has got to be one of the nice spas in the country…
The treatment room at Doonbeg.
.. in what I would say is one of the best hotels in the country too smile

Anyway, next Christmas you will no doubt see many of the other images we created here – but until then, this is how we will remember Christmas at Doonbeg – which was a great way to start the New Year.

So from Marie, Paul & me @ ampimage.com, make it a good one smile
