My turn.

Shoot towards the bar…
One of the original pictures taken of the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. or towards the seating area…
One of the original pictures taken of the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. was the big question asked back when we first looked this room, which they call the Media Puzzle Lounge.

Media Puzzle (May 7, 1997 – June 22, 2006), foaled in the United States was an Irish horse best known for his win in the 2002 Melbourne Cup.
Bred by Walter Haefner’s Moyglare Stud Farm and owned by Dr. M. W. Smurfit. He was sired by Theatrical, the 1987 U.S. Champion Male Turf Horse, and out of the mare Market Slide by Gulch, the 1988U.S. Champion Sprint Horse. Media Puzzle is the half brother of Refuse to Bend, a four-time group 1 winning entire by Sadler’s Wells.

Anyway, bright and early the following morning – after having spent quite some time in this room the night before – the team made a start…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as Ivan prepared himself for another long day…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which Claudio brilliantly captured on camera…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as he clearly was up for an early start wink

Seriously though, with Ivan’s help…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. the two of them had all the lights up outside the 3 large windows…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. in no time at all – so now it was starting to look pretty good…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as they stood in for some test shots…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as we tried visualise where the people would be in the final image…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. once they all arrived.

Which also gave Claudio plenty of time to take lots of behind the scenes shots..
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. of us all in action…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. doing whatever each of us felt needed to be done…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. including of me…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which usually just shows me pressing the button every now and then wink

He’s very good at this – but by far the best shot he took was still to come – after the Denise and her husband, Ciarán, arrive…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and I had given everyone their instructions…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. taken a few quick shots…
One of the last pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. adjusted the lighting…
One of the last pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and then captured them for real:

Because as good as that was, it wasn’t until Claudio took this image of this absolutely amazing looking guy…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which Ivan then texted everyone he knew about…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. that I was then able to say, this is the final result…
The Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. because yes, it was my turn to make an appearance in an image that had been well and truly amped smile

Which just leave me to thank everyone involved, including Denise & Ciarán here, who were about to appear in a few more images before the end of the day – but more on that to follow.

And so that’s the story behind this image that you can now see on their website…

The Byerley Turk.

“Well we did agree at the start, Ivan – so I’m going to finish this beer…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and then it’s back to work”
wink

Which basically was what it was like – as we just had time for a club sandwich before we needed to set-up for the next shot – which was of the Byerley Turk restaurant here…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which they wanted us to capture after the sun had gone down – in other words a late evening shot.

Never an easy one to do, as it can be very hard to visualise how that is actually going to look, until it basically is dark outside.

Which at this time of year and especially on a day like it was today, could mean it would be nearly 10 O’Clock…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. by which time they would be starting to serve the last orders of the black stuff – so it was time to crack on,
as far as I was concerned smile

According to wikipedia:

The Byerley Turk was a dark brown or black horse of unknown breeding, but described in historic accounts as an Arabian…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. it was the earliest of three stallions that were the founders of the modern Thoroughbred horse racing bloodstock (the other two are the Godolphin Arabian and the Darley Arabian).

So while Dianne worked on the table setting…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. Ivan and Claudio started working on the lighting…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. before it was time for Claudio’s big moment…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. because yes Claudio…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. the spot light is now on you wink

And so as night time approached, we were pretty much here…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. adding a few small pools of light…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which when all pieced together – finally ended up looking like this:
The Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare

Which on The K Club’s website now looks like this…
Screen shot showing The Byerley Turk on the K Club's website
.. to let everyone see that Claudio also enjoys “a sumptuous evening dining experience” too wink

A tough one to end the day on – so it was time for a few pints of the black stuff, as I needed to keep everyone’s strength up for the following day – so more to follow, but for now that’s it from the team who just amped The Byerley Turk’s image too smile

Pieced together.

Next morning we were back into the Tara Suite…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. now that it was free – this time to show it’s full size.

So podium down…

.. lights up inside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and outside too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and then it was time for some steaming…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. pulling…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and even some pining…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. as we all worked at reducing the creases as much as possible…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which in the end, after everything was done, looked like so:
The Tara Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa in County Meath.

Which just left one shot to go – the Drawing Room…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. set for a private dinner party, in the late evening, being the brief.

Which originally I through we were going to have to wait for once again – but no, it was full steam head…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. as we dismantled it all…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. then ironed not only all the table clothes…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. but also all the chair covers too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which made for some very interesting behind the scenes shots…

.. before we put it back together again…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. just as it was before:

Quick shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. to confirm that we hadn’t done anything at anyone would notice…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which meant it was time to start working on the lighting – which both Claudio…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and Ivan here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. had all under control – included it’s security too, as the hotel was very busy.

Meanwhile, back inside, Dianne & I were on the floor…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. doing something which obviously must have seem very important at the time smile

Anyway, after the candles and the fire had been lit, the waiter had been positioned, etc, etc – this was the final result…
The Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. once it was all pieced together – or amped as we would say – as there is often a lot more put into these image, than anyone (I’m hoping) will ever think or even notice wink

Which just leaves me to say a Big Thanks to everyone who was involved here – especially Rosalie, who was amazingly well organised throughout the shoot – and to all the hotel’s staff too, as it was a real pleasure to work with you all once again – from Dianne, Claudio, Ivan & me @ ampimage.com smile

Boardrooms

After a quiet few months at the start of the year – which gave me plenty of time to finally watch the Game of Thrones (which was partly filmed down the road at Titanic Studios in Belfast, where I helped Nels Israelson back in 2010, produce the original cover image of Ned Stark on the throne) – the phone started to ring again smile

So with Spring in the air – and new rear air suspension and front suspension fitted too – it was time once again time to polish and pack the wagon…
Land Rover packed and ready to go.
.. as we were of to produce some more new images at Dunboyne Castle Hotel – where we the last time shot Only Bedrooms.

So no bedrooms this time, as it was the rest of their hotel they wanted us to capture – starting with the Francini Suite on Sunday evening – which on our arrival they had all set-up ready for me to take a picture of, as it had been booked out for the rest of the week.

“Looks good” I thought – until Dianne started to point out a few things on the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and here was me thinking I had already finished…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. but there was no chance of that, as she had only just begun…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. so it was like: lets start all over again wink

And in the meantime, Claudio and Ivan here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. worked on the lighting – while I stood and watched, not only Dianne here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. but Rosalie, Claudio and the maintenance guy too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. all doing their thing.

So one last test shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. fix the hair…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and this was the final result…
The Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. which I naturally will take all the credit for – especially since I can’t see what the others did – which is often our goal, as we all work very hard to make it look like we did nothing at all wink

Next up was the Alder Suite…
One of the first pictures taken in the Alder Suite.
.. so lights up…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. someone standing here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. me back there…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. a quick test shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. yes sort that out…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. straighten those…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. fix those…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and we were almost done.

Time to position our business man…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and this was the final result…
The Alder Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. after it was all pieced together.

Delighted at how well we had done, bearing in mind that this was the day of rest, it was time to enjoy a few pints of the black stuff…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. around our own boardroom table smile

So lots more to follow – as the big shots were the following day – but for now that’s my notes on day one.

Cheers

The lady in red.

OUR THINKING: “Large bunch of flowers on the table in the middle – couple coming down the stairs about to go out the a black tie affair and the kids upstiars looking throught the rail as watch their parents walking down those beautiful stairs.

This to me is like a movie set – or like something that one would only see in the movies – and so ‘lights, camera and action’ are required 🙂

Bring the dream alive… for the viewer / your target market / your guests.

Maybe even a member of staff holding their coats, over to the left – again looking on – or another couple !!

I want to be there – I want to be them… walking down those stairs.”

Which at the time I said to them, was like my crazy vision of this…
The original picture taken of the hallway in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. half expecting them to reply, to tell me to ‘get real’ and ‘wise-up’ smile.

But here I was a few months later, standing back in the same spot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. as I looked at this image on the screen…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. as Claudio, Dianne and one of the models stood-in to let me see how it might look.

So it was all hands on board for this one, as you can see…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. as the models tried on different outfits…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. and the guys even made a few suggestions too…
One of the pictures during the shoot at Straffan House.
.. which for some strange reason, the client didn’t seem to think was quite right wink.

Seriously thought, having Ivan here at the shoot was great…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. as was Claudio here too…
One of the pictures during the shoot at Straffan House.
.. who managed to get the only smile that I managed to capture from our leading man here wink.

So thanks for that Claudio – because as you can see…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. he couldn’t wait to tell all his mates about his vision here – while the lady in red was being prepared to make her grand appearance.

Anyway, this was the final result…
The hallway in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. which wasn’t quite as I had visioned a few months ago – but nevertheless, I was still very pleased with it – as who wouldn’t want to be the lady in red here, coming down those magnificent stairs in a house like this smile.

So three done, three to go – and only one more to go with the models – as we were fast approaching the end of this short day, due the sun setting around 4 at this time of year.

Which means the late evening dining room shot next – but that’s for now, as it’s the end of another day here for me.

The pool.

The swimming pool and gym area was next on our list – which again we had recced a few months ago here…
Photos of the swimming pool at Staffan House.
.. when they showed us around.

“OUR THINKING: Yes to the pool – which I looked at from a few different positions.
This being the one – which shows the gym area too – so we’d move the running machine, to see it (maybe even have someone on it) – someone on the chairs at the back or even in the pool with their arms on the deck or even in the hot tub!!

Memeber of staff with drinks / cocktails or champagne & strawberries !!

Living the dream.”

So with the camera in position, the first images appeared on screen..
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. as everyone being to gather…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. and I talked to each of the models about what I saw them doing…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. before shooting a few more frames…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. as we tried each of the models in the position we felt may work best…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. while Claudio and Ivan worked hard on the lighting – which I have got to say they did an amazing job on, as this was a ‘tricky enough’ one to light, especially to make it look like it was naturally lit at this time of year.

Anyway, as everyone watched the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. they made suggestions…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
..and then we tried something else…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. checked the screen again…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. tried something else…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House at The K Club.
.. until we all finally agreed that this was the image…
The swimming pool in the Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. that best helped to tell the story, about what was down here in the basement of this amazing Straffan House smile.

So two done, four to go – which meant up to the entrance hallway next – which you can read more about later on wink.

Straffan House.

A few months ago we were asked to take a look at Straffan House here…
Photos of Staffan House on the K Club's website.
.. which is on the grounds of the The K Club in County Kildare.

So we when along to have a look and took some quick pictures like this…
The original picture taken of the sitting room in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. of the sitting room area – and then wrote up our report on what we felt would work.

“This picture shows the angle and what we would be looking to shoot here, i.e the fireplace, the coffee table & sofas, and room beyond.
May need to move the sofas a bit for the camera – fire lit – a glass of brandy and a good book – people or a member of staff in the background.”

So anyway, last week we arrived in convoy at the gates of this private house…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. and after setting up the camera to take the first of the images of this room…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. it was obvious from what we saw on screen here…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. at we needed to move some of the furniture about a bit…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. so while Ivan and I sorted that out, Dianne worked on the styling…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. while Claudio obviously took lots of ‘behind the scenes’ pictures…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. of us all at work smile.

Anyway, the one great thing about working in a house this size…
Behind the scenes at the Straffan House shoot at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. is that there was lots of room for everyone to get on with their thing while we got on with ours.

And so as the first of the models arrived we were pretty much ready to go…
One of the first pictures taken in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. as all that was now left to do was see where they would sit…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in Straffan House.
.. which in the end just meant taking lots of shots, as they kind-off had their own idea of what they wanted to do wink.

Anyway, this was the final result…
The sitting room in Straffan House at The K Club in County Kildare.
.. to tell the story about this amazing room – and how it would be ideal for you and your family, should you wish to stay here for a few days wink.

So one done, five to go – which meant down to the basement next – which you can read more about that later on smile.

March 28, 2016

Five images…

.. and then some, to tell the story about what all goes on both in front and behind the camera, during what one would assume would have been a wee easy shoot.

Which in this case started back in January, when I received an email from Elaine O’Halloran, Director of Sales at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin, which read:

“Good evening Ashley,

I hope this finds you very well?

I would like to arrange some new photography of our suites here at Dylan. Can you please send me through a costing and your availability?

Many thanks
Elaine”

And so after a few emails to help answer her questions and a visit last month to have a quick look around…
The Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. it was time to load up the wagon once again as I had a story to tell – or five in this case, as that is what we had narrowed it down to, to keep within their budget.

Which started of with me having to replace a flat type…
Flat tyre at the beginning of the shoot.
.. on the first morning, before we even got started rolleyes

Anyway, first up was room 106…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which we mentioned in our concept report after the recce, about this one probably needing two shots – but ideally it would just be one – and possibly capturing a ‘corporate feel’ but still leaving it open to the leisure market.

Naturally I had asked both Marie and Claudio for their help here – so when Claudio had a minute, he took some quick shots to help tell the story of what goes on behind the scenes…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which in themselves I think says it all…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. as it sure wasn’t a case of just turning up and taking some quick snaps of whatever happened to be there, to please this 5 Star client…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. as two and a half hours passed – and so what started out looking like this…
First picture taken in bedroom suite 106 at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. ended up looking like this…
Bedroom suite 106 in the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. with Barry standing in to not only complete the ‘corporate feel’ story, but also to draw one’s eye through to highlight the fact that there was a bedroom area in this room too.

Which meant just one image was needed in the end, rather than two – which was also our goal, as we wanted to stay within their ‘5 image’ budget as well.

Next up was room 101…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which we mentioned in our concept report, about this being the “Experience Suite” -which was a lovely bright room (especially on a sunny day like it was when we recced it) with a large bay window.

Anyway, with the camera now in position, Barry worked on the bed, Claudio worked on the lighting and Marie began doing her thing…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. but as Claudio’s behind the scenes pictures show here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. this was by no means a quick shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. as the every last detail was checked…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. over and over again.

So what started out looking like this…
First picture taken in bedroom suite 101 at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. ended up looking like this…
Bedroom suite 101 in the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. some two and half hours later – with Elaine standing in to complete the “Experience” story – and so that was it for the day, as the light was beginning to fade and so were we wink

Next morning, bright and early, we started in the seating area of the bar…
One of the first pictures taken in the bar area at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which as you can see looked good as is.

However, since the goal here wasn’t just to see if I could take some pictures of what was there, as they already had lots of pictures like that, then we set about trying to create an image that they would want to use a lot instead – so once again the we started…
One of the first pictures taken in the bar area at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. by first turning the grand piano and thinning it all out – then checking to see how that looked on screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. before seeing how it would look with a person in it…
One of the first pictures taken in the bar area at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. more checking the results…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. trying that for real…
One of the first pictures taken in the bar area at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. while Claudio recorded us in action…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. then more discussions…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. and so finally after 2 hours, what started out looking like this…
First picture taken of the seating area in the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. ended up looking like this…
Seating area in the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. so that was three out of the five in the bag.

Next was room 303…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. to convey a “shopping message” as we were in the heart of Dublin.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words – and this one tells a story…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which no doubt I will talk more about some day – as replacing a flat tire on the Land Rover is easy, compared to what looks to be flat out-of-steam Marie here rolleyes

Still the show must go on – and so once again we tried different things – seeing how it would look with people in it…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. seeing how it would look with some food…
One of the first pictures taken in one of the bedroom suites at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. and so some 2 and a half hours later once again, what started out looking like this…
First picture taken of the seating area in the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. ended up looking like this…
Bedroom suite 303 in the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which meant that was four in the (shopping) bag smile

The final image was of the bar…
One of the first pictures taken of the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. which they had wanted a ‘late evening’ image of, with some guests drinking cocktails and staff in it, to make it look like somewhere you would want to be tonight.

So lights up…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. lots of test shots…
One of the first pictures taken of the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. before the models arrived and the cocktails too…
One of the first pictures taken of the bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. then it was time to shoot, while Barry and Elaine kept a close eye on the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. before a quick look at the results…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. and so what started out looking like this…
First picture taken of Cocktail Bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. ended up looking like this…
The Cocktail Bar at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. just before 6pm – which was perfect timing, as that’s when this place became naturally busy, as this was Easter weekend here in the heart of Dublin.

Which meant it was then time to pack – very tired but very pleased with the results – and so to complete the story, Claudio took one last picture…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the Dylan Hotel in Dublin.
.. of me with all the gear that we had used, to make it look like I used nothing at all smile

So at the end of this (short) story [within this (very long) story, which unfortunately also shows the end of another chapter, which is another story in itself], I would just like to say a big thanks to Elaine & Barry from the Dylan Hotel for this opportunity to tell your story and for also making us all feel so welcome too.

Selling the dream.

Wagon packed…
Land Rover loaded up
.. as we were heading down to shoot in County Westmeath near Athlone this week, at the Hodson Bay Hotel – after getting a request to produce 4 images for them to use to help market & advertise their place.

The first was to be the penthouse suite set-up as a honeymoon suite, as promoting weddings was top of their list.

So having arrive the evening before, we talked things over with them again and decided to go for something a wee bit different to what we had originally planed, after Marie here…
Marie standing on the balcony of Penthouse suite at the Hodson Bay Hotel
.. thought this would make for a great bridal shot.

What was she thinking, I hear you say – well it involved getting up very early the next following morning…
Sunrise over Hobson Bay
.. and then wait for the sun to rise.

So while Claudio here – our assistant for the day, who we only contacted the day before via the Photography Ireland forum – stood in…
Claudio Salviato
.. I set-up the camera and started to light it as best I could, while keeping my fingers crossed.

As timing was going to be everything here – as we watched the sun rising…
Sunrise over Hobson Bay
.. the bride appeared…
Model arrives
.. and so it was all hands on board…
All hands on board
.. as I knew this golden light or ‘first light’ as it’s sometimes called, wouldn’t last for more than a couple of minutes.

Beautiful…
Bride standing in the balcony of Penthouse suite at the Hodson Bay Hotel which is situated on the shores of Lough Ree near Athlone in Ireland.
.. but so too was the view…
Sunrise over Hobson Bay
.. which at the end of the day was very much their unique selling point – which was amazing too.
