Or Christmas comes early – depending which way you want to look at it – as we were shooting Amanda and Keith’s double fronted mid terrace house in Belfast last week…
Amanda and Keith Cunningham's double fronted mid terrace house in Belfast at Christmas.
.. for a magazine feature in future Christmas issues.

So with the tree still up, I set-up the camera while Amanda made some last minute changes…
Setting up in Amanda Cunningham's home.
.. before lots more changes were made, while I worked on the lighting…
Setting up in Amanda Cunningham's home.
.. to give it a much more bright & airy feel, even thought it was raining outside.

Still, with everything and everyone in place…
Amanda Cunningham with her two boys in the living room of their double fronted mid terrace house in Belfast at Christmas.
.. the first set of images were in the bag, one hour after we had arrived – which for us, is actually pretty good going wink

Lots of detail shots naturally – and then into the kitchen…
Setting up in Amanda Cunningham's home.
.. where the fun began again – as Marie & Amanda did their thing…
Setting up in Amanda Cunningham's home.
.. while I once again worked on the lighting – which didn’t actually take that long, as the outside light was already pretty much in place – so with just a touch of fill…
The kitchen in Amanda & Keith Cunningham's double fronted mid terrace house in Belfast at Christmas.
.. we had our second main room done, before stopping for a bit to eat.

Anyway, a great home for sure and there was naturally lots to shoot – but the room Amanda was most keen to have shot, was this one…
Setting up in Amanda Cunningham's home.
.. which she had just recently decorated – and so with little to do here but light it up…
Bedroom in Amanda & Keith Cunningham's double fronted mid terrace house in Belfast at Christmas.
.. we actually managed to get it all done in a relatively short space of time.

So one to look out for next Christmas.

From Marie & me @ ampimage.com – wishing you all, a belated Merry Christmas smile

Festive Elegance.

Is the title of our latest published work in the December 2014 issue of Ireland’s Homes Interiors & Living magazine…
Pages 78 to 86 in the December 2014 issue of Ireland's Homes Interiors & Living magazine featuring Seamus Sweeney's cottage style bungalow near Holywood in County Down at Christmas.
.. on pages 78 to 86 – featuring Seamus Sweeney’s cottage style bungalow near Holywood in County Down at Christmas.

“As Belfast businessman Seamus Sweeney settles down to enjoy Christmas in his elegant home, he can hardly believe that his first instinct was to knock down the property, until he fell in love with it’s period charm. A last minute execution for the 1920s bungalow – not to mention a major re-style – has given it a new lease of life and created a modern home retaining all the charm of its classic provenance.”

Which we talked about shooting here: Christmas comes early.

Anyway, it is obviously the magazine’s Christmas issue – which does now seem to come around much earlier each year, as it only seems like a few months ago since I was taking the Christmas tree down – so must remember to take it down a bit earlier this year πŸ™‚

Seriously though, with less than 2 month to go, the festive session has begun – and so we are now on the look-out for next years Christmas homes – so do let us know if you are up for it or know of someone who is, as we would love to hear from you.

Anyway congratulations to Seamus here, for this time making it into this beautifully printed Irish glossy magazine – which besides being jam-packed with homes, features and competitions worth Β£2,500 – really does start the festive season off with elegance.

Have a great pre-Christmas everyone, from Marie, Mandi & me @ homesinteriors.com – where you can read more about what we do… should you like your home featured too at some point in time πŸ™‚

Season to be cheerful.

Is the title of our latest published work in the December 2014 issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine…
Pages 78 to 81 in the December 2014 issue of 25 Beautiful Homes magazine featuring Amanda and Keith McGuile's seaside Victorian terrace which overlooks Bangor Marina in County Down.
.. on pages 78 to 81 – featuring Amanda and Keith McGuile’s seaside Victorian terrace which overlooks Bangor Marina in County Down.

“Amanda and Keith McGuile’s home is beautiful all year round, but it takes on a magical air over the festive period.”

Which we talked about shooting at the time here: Shabby Chic Christmas.

Anyway, when Marie received her copy of the magazine last week, she emailed me to say:

My advance copy has arrived – they kind of bleached out Amanda’s a wee bit and I LOVE it πŸ™‚

I love it too – looks amazing – so I’d just like to say a big thanks to everyone involved and especially to Amanda & Keith for once again inviting us into their beautiful home – not forgetting their son Bailey here…
Amanda McGuile with her son Bailey in their Victorian terrace which overlooks Bangor Marina in County Down at Christmas time.
.. who as always, was the real Star of the show.

So thank you from Marie, Mandy & me @ ampimage.com – as it’s definitely now the season to be cheerful smile

Christmas in the USA

The main reason for us being here, was due to us being asked by Rachel – the commissioning homes editor at the BBC – if we would be interested in going to America to produce and then provide her with some images of a home in New England, for her to use in their up & coming Christmas issue.

To which we had to think long & hard about… for all of 2 seconds, before saying YES smile

So this was the next one on our list and the main reason for us being here… in August.
Not exactly Christmas time, nor did it feel like Christmas – but nevertheless, when we arrived at Jackie & David’s New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont, we knew Santa wasn’t far away, as one of his little helper was already there…
Young deer outside Jackie Ennis & David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont at Christmas.
.. out in their garden, keeping an eye on us all smile

Anyway, needless to say a lot of work when into this one…
setting up the living room shot in Jackie & David's New England farmhouse near Stowe.
.. as we were shooting this totally out of season…
Jackie Ennis & David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont at Christmas.
.. and so therefore everything had to be set-up so as to make it look as Christmasy as possible…
Jackie Ennis & David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont at Christmas.
.. while the summer sun was shining brightly outside.

The storyline:

Jackie, originally from Manchester in the UK, who now works in tourism & marketing for New England, said: β€˜When I first met David, we were both working in Boston but he is originally from Vermont and had always wanted to return there. We knew that Vermont would be very different and much quieter than Boston and decided to stay here for a six month trial period to see if it felt right. We stayed in the small town of Stowe which is quite near the Canadian border and at the end of the six months, I was totally sold. Vermont is famous for its beautiful scenery – particularly in the β€œfall” but I also loved the whole lifestyle aspect. The population in Vermont is surprisingly small; crime rate is low and everything is clean and well maintained. The summers are hot and sunny and wonderful for cycling, walking and kayaking whereas the winters are perfect for skiing and sledding. Even though Stowe is quite small, it has a really nice social scene with great restaurants, theatres and art galleries. We both agreed it would be a perfect place to settle down and raise a family.’

Now that’s what I call a ‘sales pitch’ – but it was also all true – as this really is a beautiful part of the world – and I could totally see why they moved here.

Anyway, it was very hot outside, so naturally we ask them all to dress in their warmest winter clothes…
Jackie Ennis & her son, Callum, the living room of in their New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont.
.. and act the part…
Jackie Ennis & her son, Callum, in the kitchen of their New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont.
.. which both Callum (above) and Antonia as seen here in her bedroom…
Antonia in her bedroom.
.. clearly loved doing – and Antonia even suggested a few different poses of her own…
Antonia in the bathroom.
.. which I obviously had to shoot wink

When Marie asked Jackie to tell us about Christmas in Vermont for the feature, she said:
I’m probably a little biased but to me this has to be one of the most picturesque places in the world to spend Christmas. We always have snow and everyone tends to decorate their homes in a very traditional way with real Christmas trees, wooden decorations and not too much tinsel.

Beautiful…
Master bedroom in Jackie Ennis & David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont.
.. and so was the amazing spread in the December issue of BBC Good Homes magazine…
Pages 152 to 157 in the December 2005 issue of BBC Good Homes magazine featuring Jackie Ennis and David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont at Christmas.
.. which they ran over 6 pages – as was the 7 page spread and cover of Templeton Robinson’s property life magazine…
The cover plus pages 14 to 20 in issue 20 of Templeton Robinson's Property Life magazine featuring Jackie Ennis and David Rocchio's New England farmhouse near Stowe in Vermont at Christmas.
.. a few years later – which they titled, Christmas in the USA.

Over the moon to be back in America – and this was the main reason for our return – which one day soon I hope to do again.

So in the meantime, I’d just to say a huge thanks to everyone involved here – especially to Jackie, David, Callum and Antonia – for not only making us feel so welcome but for also making a dream come true for both of us.

From Marie & me @ ampimage.com, thank you.

Vision of Christmas

When creating an image for others to use, most images start out with some sort of vision in my head – but sometimes that vision simply doesn’t pan out.

And so it was at Doonbeg Golf & Spa resort – after having taken a quick shot…
Setting up the Christmas table shot at Doonbeg.
.. of what I thought would make for a very nice Christmas table setting.

Put up the tree, dress the table and quickly lit it to see…
Setting up the Christmas table shot at Doonbeg.
.. but it still just didn’t seem to be right – and possibly was never going to be – as sometimes happens in life.

Trying to hard or trying to get to much in, is often the problem – so rather than continuing with this, I decided to go for an alternate tighter angle instead…
Setting up the Christmas table shot at Doonbeg.
.. which immediately looked so much better.

And so, after Marie had worked her magic – which once again involved ‘less being more’ – we all smiled at the final result…
Christmas table shot at Doonbeg.
.. as it just looked so simple in the end.

So if your vision of Christmas isn’t quite panning out – remember, sometimes less is more – or alternatively, there is always Doonbeg should you fancy a wee break from it all πŸ™‚

Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone – from Marie, me and the team at ampimage… have a good one!!

Is the title of our latest published work in the December 2013 issue of Period Ideas magazine…
Pages 42 to 48 in the December 2013 issue of Period Ideas magazine featuring Julie and David Morrow's Edwardian terraced cottage near the County Down town of Comber at Christmas.
.. on pages 42 to 48 – featuring Julie and David Morrow’s Edwardian terraced cottage near the County Down town of Comber at Christmas.

“Julie and David Morrow’s pretty cottage is tailor made for a cosy Christmas and the couple love decorating their home every winter.”

And a wee message in from Julie to say:

“Delighted we’re in Period Ideas at Christmas. Just waiting for that front cover issue, then I’ll have arrived!! Lol.”

Because I did mention to her at the time, that I could see this image of her…
Julie Morrow outside her Edwardian terraced cottage near the County Down town of Comber at Christmas.
.. making it onto a cover someday – which I still can – so hang in there Julie πŸ™‚

Anyway, besides saying ‘Let it snow’ now that I have a new wagon to play with – I’d also like to say a big thanks to everyone involved here once again – and especially to Steve at Chilli Media for making this one happen.

Let there be light.

As the count begins, was what I was thinking here…
Capture-176161
.. as we setup the first of a series of shots, for the Natural Calico website.

Yes, it’s that time of year again – so with less than 60 days to go until Christmas, it was time for me to turn on my lights…
Natural-176182
.. to complete the dream.

Which is basically what it’s all about – from my point of view – selling the dream of Christmas cheer…
Natural-176193
.. so with that in mind, we shot everything from jugs…
Natural-176289
.. to musical fairies…
Natural-176498
.. as well as what seemed to be everything else in Marie’s kitchen..
behind-20131026

But the item that I think we both had the most fun with, was this advent calendar ..
Natural-176443
.. which was a kind of a “grown up” vision – quite urban & chic.

But I’ll let Marie tell you more about that, over on the Natural Calico site – as the magical 24 day count down draws closer, to see what ‘my true love gave to me’.

Anyway, with only 57 days to go, it’ll now not be long before you too are saying: “Let there be light” – as you turn on your Christmas lights for the first time this year… while keeping your fingers crossed that they still work πŸ™‚

So this is just a wee insight, into what we have been up to, to add a little cheer to your Christmas this year.

Hope you have a good one from Marie & me @ ampimage.com

Cheap & Cheerful.

I think not – is probably what Marie was thinking here…
Before
.. as she stands looking at this…
Before
.. which is part of a major project she has been working on – this being the kitchen area in a house that she & her husband, Alan, bought last year.

Over the 10 years I’ve worked with Marie, in between photoshoots, she has designed and project managed several jobs like this – mainly for others but also a quite a few for herself too. So this is nothing new to Marie – and I have of course shot most of them at various stages.

With this one, Marie is turning what used to be a very dated 60’s house, into a stylish, yet understated, comfortable home – which she & Alan are planing on living in now… for a wee while at least – before she gets itchy feet again.

I know her too well, but time will tell πŸ™‚

Anyway, a few days before Christmas, Marie invited me round to shoot the final result (for a possible future magazine feature) – and all I can say is: Wow !!

I love it…
The kitchen & dining area in Marie & Alan (McMillen) McKernan's detached 1960's house in Belfast at Christmas.
.. love it…
