Indulge yourself.

Next up was the River Room Restaurant – which like with the The Pantheon Suite, they were busy redecorating when we were last down…
Original picture taken of the River Room Restaurant at the K Club.
.. but we knew this room well, as this was where we had our breakfast each morning – so the concept was simple:

“This is a big room so we feel it will look better with a few people about.
Breakfast setting – with the early morning sunlight pouring in across the room.
Family having breakfast with possibly the father at the self service”

So as soon as the last guests had finished their breakfast…
One of the last pictures taken in the River Room Restaurant at the K Club in County Kildare
.. we started to do what we do…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. while Claudio and Ivan worked on the lighting…
One of the first pictures taken in the River Room Restaurant at the K Club in County Kildare
.. then there was the ironing to be done…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. repositioning of the chairs…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and before you know it we where basically ready to shoot it for real…
One of the last pictures taken in the River Room Restaurant at the K Club in County Kildare
.. just as the Stars of the show arrived…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. all of whom we knew, as we had worked with them all before.

So while Claudio had fun briefed them…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. poor Ivan waited patiently by the lights outside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. but he didn’t have to wait very long – because it was basically all over in less than 5 minutes…
One of the last pictures taken in the River Room Restaurant at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as they all posed to perfection in almost ever frame.

And so this was the final result…

.. which I was delighted with, once it was pieced together or amped as we would say wink

And so that’s the story behind this image that you can now see on their website…

My turn.

Shoot towards the bar…
One of the original pictures taken of the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. or towards the seating area…
One of the original pictures taken of the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. was the big question asked back when we first looked this room, which they call the Media Puzzle Lounge.

Media Puzzle (May 7, 1997 – June 22, 2006), foaled in the United States was an Irish horse best known for his win in the 2002 Melbourne Cup.
Bred by Walter Haefner’s Moyglare Stud Farm and owned by Dr. M. W. Smurfit. He was sired by Theatrical, the 1987 U.S. Champion Male Turf Horse, and out of the mare Market Slide by Gulch, the 1988U.S. Champion Sprint Horse. Media Puzzle is the half brother of Refuse to Bend, a four-time group 1 winning entire by Sadler’s Wells.

Anyway, bright and early the following morning – after having spent quite some time in this room the night before – the team made a start…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as Ivan prepared himself for another long day…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which Claudio brilliantly captured on camera…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as he clearly was up for an early start wink

Seriously though, with Ivan’s help…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. the two of them had all the lights up outside the 3 large windows…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. in no time at all – so now it was starting to look pretty good…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare

.. as we tried visualise where the people would be in the final image…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. once they all arrived.

Which also gave Claudio plenty of time to take lots of behind the scenes shots..
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. of us all in action…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. doing whatever each of us felt needed to be done…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. including of me…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which usually just shows me pressing the button every now and then wink

He’s very good at this – but by far the best shot he took was still to come – after the Denise and her husband, Ciarán, arrive…
One of the first pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and I had given everyone their instructions…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. taken a few quick shots…

.. adjusted the lighting…
One of the last pictures taken in the Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and then captured them for real:

Because as good as that was, it wasn’t until Claudio took this image of this absolutely amazing looking guy…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which Ivan then texted everyone he knew about…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. that I was then able to say, this is the final result…
The Media Puzzle Lounge at the K Club in County Kildare
.. because yes, it was my turn to make an appearance in an image that had been well and truly amped smile

Which just leave me to thank everyone involved, including Denise & Ciarán here, who were about to appear in a few more images before the end of the day – but more on that to follow.

And so that’s the story behind this image that you can now see on their website…

The Byerley Turk.

“Well we did agree at the start, Ivan – so I’m going to finish this beer…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and then it’s back to work”
wink

Which basically was what it was like – as we just had time for a club sandwich before we needed to set-up for the next shot – which was of the Byerley Turk restaurant here…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which they wanted us to capture after the sun had gone down – in other words a late evening shot.

Never an easy one to do, as it can be very hard to visualise how that is actually going to look, until it basically is dark outside.

Which at this time of year and especially on a day like it was today, could mean it would be nearly 10 O’Clock…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. by which time they would be starting to serve the last orders of the black stuff – so it was time to crack on,
as far as I was concerned smile

According to wikipedia:

The Byerley Turk was a dark brown or black horse of unknown breeding, but described in historic accounts as an Arabian…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. it was the earliest of three stallions that were the founders of the modern Thoroughbred horse racing bloodstock (the other two are the Godolphin Arabian and the Darley Arabian).

So while Dianne worked on the table setting…
One of the first pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. Ivan and Claudio started working on the lighting…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. before it was time for Claudio’s big moment…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. because yes Claudio…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. the spot light is now on you wink

And so as night time approached, we were pretty much here…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. adding a few small pools of light…
One of the last pictures taken in the Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which when all pieced together – finally ended up looking like this:
The Byerley Turk at the K Club in County Kildare

Which on The K Club’s website now looks like this…
Screen shot showing The Byerley Turk on the K Club's website
.. to let everyone see that Claudio also enjoys “a sumptuous evening dining experience” too wink

A tough one to end the day on – so it was time for a few pints of the black stuff, as I needed to keep everyone’s strength up for the following day – so more to follow, but for now that’s it from the team who just amped The Byerley Turk’s image too smile

The Pantheon Suite.

I usually just talk about the work that we would do on the day of the shoot – but in many cases, that is just the final part, as the actual job may have started many months ago – and the work that the client would have done may have even started long before that.

Which was very much the case here at The K Club, because as you can see from this quick shot I took of this room back in March…
Quick shot taken of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. they were busy decorating their hotel.

So by the time we arrived, 99% of the work was done…
One of the first pictures taken of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. so I was simply here now to capture that…
Behind the scenes during the shoot of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. using light…
Behind the scenes during the shoot of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and a camera…
Behind the scenes during the shoot of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. to put into words what they wanted to say to their guests about this wonderful room.

So this one was fairly simple, as the sky was blue and the sun was shining – which in this case meant the room was already beautifully lit too.

Controlling that light saw therefore really the big thing here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. but other than that, I reckoned it was looking pretty good…
Behind the scenes during the shoot of the Pantheon Suite at the K Club in County Kildare
.. so after a few test shots…

.. it was time to shoot it for real…

“Perfect for entertaining your corporate clients or to reward your top earners, best sales people or just a treat with friends…”

“The K Club offers a truly unique dining experience”

Due to months of hard work by a lot of people – so more to follow, as we do our best to capture that in it’s best light smile

River View.

Last year when we were at The K Club, looking at Straffan House – which I talked about us shooting here: A dream come true – we also looked at one of the bedrooms in their hotel, which they called the Liffey Deluxe.

And the main reason for doing so, was because they felt the view outside the window made a difference, i.e. the River view on the left, the Woodland view on the right.
So with that in mind, after having taken this quick shot of one of the rooms…
The Liffey Deluxe bedroom at the K Club in County Kildare
.. below was our suggestion:

“Just some quick and retouched snaps to show what we think may work here – to tell the story or say what you want to say about each of these rooms.
The Lake view room for example…

The Liffey Deluxe bedroom at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which I think would work – but the view would need to be shot from higher up, as this is like a ground floor view, rather than a 2nd or 3rd floor view outside the window.

And the Woodland view could for example look something like this…

The Liffey Deluxe bedroom at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which I think would say what you are wanting to say to the viewer / your guests here.”

They liked what they saw and so it was now time to shoot it for real – starting with the River view room…
One of the first pictures taken in the Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom at the K Club.
.. so while the girls were having fun inside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. I was have fun outside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. capturing what I felt was the best view of the river…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as I knew I may need this later on.

Then it was up with the lights…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. which Claudio & Ivan worked on…
One of the first pictures taken in the Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom at the K Club.
.. while Dianne did usual her thing…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. as Denise waited patiently by the window smile

So after controlling the sunlight which was pouring into the room…
One of the first pictures taken in the Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom at the K Club.
.. it was time to shoot it for real…
One of the last pictures taken in the Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom at the K Club.
.. which I actually thought looked pretty good as is, because one could clearly see the river outside.

Still I wanted this image to obviously say “River view” – so I quickly processed that image…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. while everyone else just had to go find something else to do…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. and this was the final result:
The Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom at the Kildare Hotel Spa & Country Club in County Kildare.

Which this morning I see they are already now using on their website…
Screen shot of the Liffey Deluxe bedroom on the K Club's website.

“One of The K Club’s newest bedroom additions, each of our beautifully appointed Liffey Deluxe Bedrooms feature views overlooking the River Liffey, our magnificent gardens or woodland views of the resort through two wide windows.”

.. along with this…

.. which was the ‘Woodland View’ bedroom image we produced at the end of this 3 day shoot.

So more on that one to follow – as that’s another story for another day – from Dianne, Claudio, Ivan & me @ ampimage.com smile.

The Chinese Drawing Room.

“So what do you think…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. not bad I guess…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare
.. but how much will it cost me…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. just work us all into the ground over the next few days, Ashley, and it’s all yours.

You’ve got to be joking, Ivan – then let’s shake on it…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. because you’ve got yourself a deal” smile

Yes we were back at the fabulous K Club and what an amazing place it is – but joking aside, I would first really like to say a big thanks to my team here, because they really did go the extra mile for me on this one, as they never stopped from sun up to sun down.

So yes we were back once again – this time to capture rooms like this…
Recce shot of the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. which they called the ‘Chinese Drawing Room’ – which they wanted to show set for high tea.

So with the camera in place, we started to move the furniture around a bit…
One of the first pictures taken in the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club.
.. as we didn’t really want to be looking at the back of the sofa.

Then checking the screen to see how that looked…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. and then – well we basically turned the room upside down…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. but as you can see we were starting to get here…
One of the first pictures taken in the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club.
.. as it was basically naturally lit…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. with a little help from what the guys had set-up outside smile

So inside it was decision time, now that all the furniture was basically in place – white table clothes or not…
One of the first pictures taken in the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club.
.. was the question – and so the ironing begun…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. followed by more test shots…
One of the first pictures taken in the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club.
.. with Susie and Dianne standing in – followed by Claudio and Ivan having a go…
One of the first pictures taken in the Chinese Drawing Room at the K Club.
.. and then there was more ironing to be done…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. before Denise (who recently got married here it seems) arrived to become The Star of the show – as Ivan…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. Dianne…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. and even Claudio here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. all seemed very eager to make her smile – before I stepped in to show them all how it was done…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. which obviously took the smile right off her face smile

Seriously though – one last look at the screen with Oral here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at the K Club in County Kildare.
.. who is the Senior Marketing Executive – and this was the final result…
The Chinese Drawing Room at the Kildare Hotel, Spa and Country Club in County Kildare.
.. to show the Chinese Drawing Room – at the fabulous Kildare Hotel, Spa & Country Club in the beautiful Irish county of Kildare.

Delighted – and so were they – which means we had only 9 more to go, before they would tell us to pack our bags and go home – which one obviously doesn’t want to do, when you are staying (or even working) at a place like this smile

Anyway, next up was the Liffey Deluxe River View bedroom – which was on the far side of the hotel – so for now that’s it, from Dianne, Claudio, Ivan & me @ ampimage.com

Pieced together.

Next morning we were back into the Tara Suite…
One of the first pictures taken during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. now that it was free – this time to show it’s full size.

So podium down…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. foreground table in place…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. lights up inside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and outside too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and then it was time for some steaming…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. pulling…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and even some pining…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. as we all worked at reducing the creases as much as possible…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which in the end, after everything was done, looked like so:
The Tara Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa in County Meath.

Which just left one shot to go – the Drawing Room…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. set for a private dinner party, in the late evening, being the brief.

Which originally I through we were going to have to wait for once again – but no, it was full steam head…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. as we dismantled it all…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. then ironed not only all the table clothes…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. but also all the chair covers too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which made for some very interesting behind the scenes shots…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. before we put it back together again…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. just as it was before:
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.

Quick shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. to confirm that we hadn’t done anything at anyone would notice…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. which meant it was time to start working on the lighting – which both Claudio…
One of the first pictures taken in the Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and Ivan here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. had all under control – included it’s security too, as the hotel was very busy.

Meanwhile, back inside, Dianne & I were on the floor…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. doing something which obviously must have seem very important at the time smile

Anyway, after the candles and the fire had been lit, the waiter had been positioned, etc, etc – this was the final result…
The Drawing Room at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. once it was all pieced together – or amped as we would say – as there is often a lot more put into these image, than anyone (I’m hoping) will ever think or even notice wink

Which just leaves me to say a Big Thanks to everyone who was involved here – especially Rosalie, who was amazingly well organised throughout the shoot – and to all the hotel’s staff too, as it was a real pleasure to work with you all once again – from Dianne, Claudio, Ivan & me @ ampimage.com smile

The new & the old.

Kicking off early the following morning in the the Lobby & Reception area…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. were they wanted to show the new & the old – and how it worked well here together at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.

This was the big one as far as I was concerned – because besides the size, the different areas and the contrast between dark & light – it trying to time it too, so as to avoid disturbing their guests to much that morning.

Anyway, with the lights up outside…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and inside too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. thanks to Ivan for health & safety…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and Claudio here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. (as I can take some good behind the scenes shots too) – the floor was given a once over…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and then it was time for me to show everyone their positions…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. while Dianne kept a close on eye how they all looked.

Anyway, we tried a variety of different things here – but this was basically the final result…
The Lobby & Reception area at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. to show now the new and the old worked beautifully together in their Lobby & Reception area.

Next up was the Tara Suite…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. which they wanted to show 2 ways – half size & then the full size.
So it was simply a case of getting the table in the foreground right to start with…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and then taking it from there – one table & chair at a time…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. then checking to see how that looks from the camera’s point of view…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. while observing what the others were doing…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as they were all clearly very busy too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. well most of the time…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
wink

Seriously though, the team was in top form – as they had it all lit up in no time at all…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. leaving me with little to do but watch the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and press the button every now and then…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. after the 7 or 8 things one needs to do to get this camera system to actually work smile

Anyway, again we tried a variety of different things here – but this was basically the final result…
The Tara Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. as Rosalie stood-in once again to complete the story they wanted to tell about this room.

And so that was it for now – as we then had to wait for the last shot of the day – which was of the IVY restaurant here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. plus there was the Tara suite to be shot again, to show it’s full size – and there was also this Drawing room too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. all of which were fully booked for the day – so we just had to wait… as that’s Part 3 of this story smile

Boardrooms

After a quiet few months at the start of the year – which gave me plenty of time to finally watch the Game of Thrones (which was partly filmed down the road at Titanic Studios in Belfast, where I helped Nels Israelson back in 2010, produce the original cover image of Ned Stark on the throne) – the phone started to ring again smile

So with Spring in the air – and new rear air suspension and front suspension fitted too – it was time once again time to polish and pack the wagon…
Land Rover packed and ready to go.
.. as we were of to produce some more new images at Dunboyne Castle Hotel – where we the last time shot Only Bedrooms.

So no bedrooms this time, as it was the rest of their hotel they wanted us to capture – starting with the Francini Suite on Sunday evening – which on our arrival they had all set-up ready for me to take a picture of, as it had been booked out for the rest of the week.

“Looks good” I thought – until Dianne started to point out a few things on the screen…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and here was me thinking I had already finished…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. but there was no chance of that, as she had only just begun…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. so it was like: lets start all over again wink

And in the meantime, Claudio and Ivan here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. worked on the lighting – while I stood and watched, not only Dianne here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. but Rosalie, Claudio and the maintenance guy too…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. all doing their thing.

So one last test shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. fix the hair…
Behind the scenes during the shoot in the Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. and this was the final result…
The Francini Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. which I naturally will take all the credit for – especially since I can’t see what the others did – which is often our goal, as we all work very hard to make it look like we did nothing at all wink

Next up was the Alder Suite…
One of the first pictures taken in the Alder Suite.
.. so lights up…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. someone standing here…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. me back there…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. a quick test shot…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. yes sort that out…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. straighten those…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. fix those…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and we were almost done.

Time to position our business man…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. and this was the final result…
The Alder Suite at Dunboyne Castle Hotel in County Meath.
.. after it was all pieced together.

Delighted at how well we had done, bearing in mind that this was the day of rest, it was time to enjoy a few pints of the black stuff…
Behind the scenes during the shoot at Dunboyne Castle Hotel.
.. around our own boardroom table smile

So lots more to follow – as the big shots were the following day – but for now that’s my notes on day one.

Cheers

You’re a Genius.

Which is what Dizzi Alfons said to me several times throughout the day – when we were shooting his 18th-century former farmhouse here…
Dizzi Alfons' 18th-century former farmhouse set in a rural estate near the medieval town of Lucca in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.
.. called La Fattoria – which is set in a rural estate near the medieval town of Lucca in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.

Words which I naturally always remember – as that was obviously quite a compliment – especially from someone like Dizzi here…
Dizzi Alfons outside his 18th-century former farmhouse set in a rural estate near the medieval town of Lucca in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.
.. who was originally from Austria, but now owns property in Paris as well as here in Italy too – which in my book makes him the Genius, as I have never been able to figure-out how I could afford to do that wink.

Anyway, they say in the photography world:

“Amateurs talk about equipment, Pros talk about money, Masters talk about light”.

So from a Pros point of view here, since that is what I see myself as, the big question for me therefore was: What did he actually mean by that ?

Was it because of my photography skills or my lighting skills – or was it in fact to do, with me having obviously worked-out a way beforehand, to enable me to afford to do this type of work at this level ?

Because let’s face it, what I was actually doing here…
The sitting room in Dizzi Alfons' 18th-century former farmhouse set in a rural estate near the medieval town of Lucca in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.
.. wasn’t exactly Rocket Science.

However, to be able to afford to travel to Italy with a professional stylist like Marie here…

.. wasn’t exactly a cheap thing to do – and since without her help…

.. I knew my images wouldn’t look anywhere near as good – then the real ingenious part as far as I was concerned, wasn’t so much to do with the work that I was actually producing here…

.. it was more to do with me having figure-out beforehand, how I was going to be able to afford to do this type of work, at this level…

.. that we were now doing here.

Because I’m 99% sure that there are hundreds of others photographers out there, who could in fact produce just as good an images as I did here…

.. IF ONLY they had the budget to play with and/or IF ONLY they could figure-out how they could possibly afford to work at this level…

.. which in-turn therefore made my image look great too smile.

So personally – since I tend to think of myself as a professional, rather than an amateurs or see myself as a Master – I think what Dizzi really meant when he said: “You’re a Genius Ashley”, is more to do with the money side of things – because “No money, No Funny” as one of my friends at college used to say smile.

Which is actually very true, as far as I’m concerned – because if you know that you don’t actually have the money to play with in the first place, then you simply can’t even begin to think of what is really possible.

Anyway, having already figured-out how licensing works (as I’d jointed the AOP back in 2002 and had read their book Beyond the Lens from cover to cover several times, in an attempt to move my business forward) – I was now not only able to live the dream but was also able to afford to create the dream too…

.. for others to see & read about – in the likes of the BBC’s GoodHomes magazine…
Pages 84 to 89 in the February 2009 issue of BBC Good Homes magazine - featuring Dizzi Alfons' 18th-century former farmhouse set in a rural estate near the medieval town of Lucca in the northern Tuscany region of Italy.
.. which is where our work here finally appeared, on pages 84 to 89.

So when I look back at what we did here – The Italian Job – and remember those very kind words of Dizzi’s: “You’re a Genius Ashley” – which obviously made me smile at the time and still do – I can’t help but think to myself, “Yes I was” – because I’d managed to do something here that most will only ever be able to dream of doing.

Unless they too one day, can somehow figure-out a way first, to be able to afford to do what they would love to do – because it basically does all come down to The Money, as that is ‘the thing’ what will ultimately determine what you can afford to do or even think of doing before you begin.

Anyway, all of this happened long time before I started my Blog here, so I’m simply remembering the past today – as I look to the future, to see if I can come-up with another ingenious way to move my business forward – now that I’m older and possibly even a little bit wise too… than a Genius wink.

Seriously though, a huge thanks goes out to Dizzi here…

.. for making us both feel so welcome at La Fattoria – as we obviously loved ever minute of being part of your dream…

.. which even to this day, we still both talk about – as that was definitely a day that we will never forget, nor do I ever want too – especially as it not ever often that someone will says to me: “You’re a Genius Ashley” smile.
